I have a small problem, I want to film (a55) in max resolution, AVCHD. Thats not a problem, but when i want to be able to watch the movie on my Ipad I cant get it to work.

Anyone knows any good conversion programs?

Not sure if you would see much difference on an iPad if you shot in mpeg. Much easier to work with.

But I'm also looking for AVCHD conversion s/w for stuff I've already shot.

I'll probably keep to mpeg for new stuff unless it's for viewing on a tv only.

Sorry, I don't have a Mac, I'm not that deep in to my Apple addiction ;-)

When I film I want the max resolution, because I'm not only going to watch it on my Ipad.

iPad wants an mp4 file, so you need something to convert AVCHD to mp4... as far as I know, there aren't many free tools to do this on Windows. You can get it to work using ffmpeg, which is free, but not necessarily straight forward to use (it's nominally a command line program, but there are some GUI front ends to it). Funny that there are many great free programs on the Mac to do this (i.e. iMovie, Handbrake), and Windows is supposed to have all the software...

But if you do want to shell out the $$, Sony Vegas would do it, and many other video editing programs would too.

If you want to convert AVCHD into something else, probably mp4 for an iPad then there are two stand out free solutions.

Handbrake

http://handbrake.fr

WinFF

http://winff.org/

Both are available for Windows and Linux and Handbrake for OS-X (WinFF can be compiled for OS-X).

Thank you all for your reply.
I have already tested handbrake, didnt work on My win7.
But i will test the last mention programs :-)

I use Android phone, I install a apps "vplayer", it read m2ts files, and play directly on my Sony Ericssion Arc phone. It also works for Android Pad.

I believe the same apps available on IPAD/IPHONE.

+2 Yeah, Format Factory is a little GEM of an application.

It is simple and does a nice job of converting AVI to MP4.
