Hi Everyone,

ok, I'm in HK, I've roamed the streets for 2 days, went to Tin Cheung Camera (the Leica store is small, but I've never seen that much worth of equipment before in such a tiny space )

Tin Cheung and Fortress have a bottom price of about $17500, that's a little bit above what I heard of, but that's ok.

The tempting stuff are deals 300 meters away, I found a 5d2 @ $13800 with one year warranty !! The shop looks ok, just like an HK camera shop.

I'm thinking, there must be something wrong.... Has anyone ever had experience with the shops on Tsim tsa Sui ? What would you advise me to pick ? Tin Cheung or the 13800$ bargain ?

Is it possible to check when the camera was manufactured based on the S/N?

I'd put my money in Tin Cheung instead of some of the other seedy camera stores advertising "Duty Free" in the TST area. Wing Shing and Man Shing in Mongkok are very reputable as well but not overly friendly. Maybe they get too many tire-kickers and think everyone is just price shopping.

Do not buy from any other camera shop in TST except Tin Cheung and Echo Photo & Audio. A deal offered to you like that will end up being too good to be true. Agree with the first response that Wing Shing and Man Shing in Mong Kok are pretty good as is Kinefoto in Central. This site gives decent info and I pretty much agree with what is said for the most part: http://rolandlim.wordpress.com/2007/08/26/recommended-camera-shops-in-hong-kong/ .

I also reckon if you shop around in the stores mentioned, you should get a 5D II around HKD16,500 to HKD17,000 max.

I agree with what's been said so far. Tsim Sha Tsui is notorious for it's scam shops. Mong Kok is by far the best place to shop for camera equipment. I lived in Hong Kong for three years and got badly burned by one of the shops along Nathan Road in TST.
Good luck!

Wing Shing in Mongkok for Canon.
TinCheung for Nikon.
