GF2 in response

You have been disappointed by their efforts time and again. No m4/3 camera has been able to meet your requirements so far. In fact, their all pointless p.o.s.

And still, you give them a chance to 'try again'.

You must in all seriousness be the most loyal prospective Panasonic buyer to date. Most people who would have been disappointed as often as you would have just bought a NEX and left this forum for what it is...
to Sony Nex-5. But same old sensor and no tiltable LCD. At least they needed to put GH1 sensor to be competitive.

Sorry, try again.

Absolutely. So much negativity and how many of us have actually held and shot with the GF2 yet? Why not go read DPreview's preview on the GF2?

They already released the Enthusiast camera in the GF1, this is the point and shoot compact body. No worries, it just isn't meant to be a successor or upgrade to the GF1.
That's what I thought, but then I checked the Lumix global website, and... they no longer list the GF1:

http://panasonic.net/avc/lumix/systemcamera/gms/index.html

So yeah, the GF2 is the successor to the GF1.
What? Okay, now I agree with you guys. Stupid move.

You might be wrong. See global Panasonic website.

What does the NEX have?

3 bad lenses
All rated higher than the same range lenses on m4/3 by reviewers (photozone).
overheating
Not a problem that is worse than on m4/3.
terrible/painful menus
Even DPR claims Nex is best mirrorless cameras after Firmware 3.

What do Nex have? Way superior sensor (DR, lowlight), some nice jpeg features, (panorama, HHT, AMB, HDR), and 7 fps.

Well, I didn't say it was a stupid move, for the record. It doesn't strike me as an absurd move to drop several buttons in exchange of a touchscreen on a camera that has no VF, in exchange for smaller size. It really comes down to how usable the touchscreen interface is.

Oh, and offered it with silly lenses - a kit zoom that throws away the size advantage or a 28mm equivalent, which is bizarre.
Not bizarre at all to me. Saw the GF2 preview, thought 'that might make a great climbing camera' (where size does make a difference, you can't 'zoom with your feet' and 28mm equivalent is perfect), then came to see if there was any discussion on the forums yet and was stunned to see so much negativity signposted by so many similar, but separate, threads with emotive titles.

So would I buy one? Dunno yet and don't tend to rush into these things, but it's possible because (despite my own preference for cameras with viewfinders) it does strike me as a potentially useful partner for my G2. So, while not at all disappointed by the announcement (FWIW, I've never wanted a GF1), disappointed to find this forum such a self-righteously joyless place to be tonight!
All very depressing if you are an enthusiast.
But there are enthusiasts and enthusiasts. And they're not all writing this thing off (looks quite interesting/exciting to me) because it's 'not good enough' for them.

Hi Pete, I thought the same thing. forums can be wierd huh?

( I've just posted your Lumix kit lens 14-42 & 14-45 horizon comparison pic and a link for someone who was asking the question - hope you don't mind. )
