Where are all the reviews? They're coming!

Why are there no high end dslr against MF digital comparisons...?
something like a D3x against a 32Mp MF camera and what you get from it....

Excellent funny post. And too true. And a little sad, I remeber Phil at first excited and enjoying posting. And then the mob got to him. He couldn't hardly step into his own forum without some geek wanting to call him out.

Nobody likes to have their work critizised and I am happy you even bothered to answer. The numbers are certainly higher but still- before you were 2, now you are about 10? If you still struggle year after year to get more reviews out then maybe it's time to ask why that is so.

As for amazon giving you cameras, I can remember you saying more than once that you don't have a camera available that was very much available to buy, so that wasn't the first time ;-)

Anyways, thanks for answering and here's hoping it'll get better in Seattle.

• We still haven't received a Nikon D7000 or D3100 from Nikon, though I'm assured they'll arrive today. We need the D7000 to finish the 60D review, so that's not helping.>
It would be better to use equipment for testing that was not chosen by the manufacturer.

One review that is presumably never coming is that of the Canon 24-105 L lens.
Don't rush, it's only been out 5 years.

They didn't review lenses 5 years ago. It's a very recent addition to the site...2 years or so, if that. Do you want them to review very lens on the market over the last 5 years?

It amazes me that people keep saying this. DPR needs the feedback from its users. Without it they won't be able to stay ahead of the pack.
All those dissatisfied with what DPR produces could always get their money back, and leave.

Constructive suggestions such as yours about visibility of what's in the pipeline are useful, I agree. But I was referring to sarcastic remarks such as: "One review that is presumably never coming is that of the Canon 24-105 L lens. Don't rush, it's only been out 5 years" which aren't constructive or helpful.

Maybe, but it's the truth.

The numerous threads & literally hundreds of posts, both pro and against, make the 24-105L lens controversial. Yet it is an expensive flagship L lens still being widely touted as the "kit" lens for the 5DII as a top notch alrounder. Hundreds, maybe thousands, have been sold.

To anyone owning or buying a Canon body a review would extremely helpful. DPR seems to have deliberately avoided a review.

That's a rather silly comment. You don't understand how the tech reviewing industry works, do you?

• We now have a Canon 60D and the studio work is pretty much finished, and the review itself is well underway.
Cool.

Just want to say that I am delighted to hear that the D7000 will be directly compared to the 60D (and likely will be a valid comparison vs the t2i and 7d as well).

The D7000 vs 60D (or t2i) direct comparison is pretty much 75% of the reason I'm looking forward to the 60D review. :-)
• We have an Olympus E-5, and the review is progressing nicely

• We are about 75% through a 3-way test of the Canon S95, Nikon P7000 and Panasonic LX5.
That sounds like an interesting comparison for sure.

I would add that I would really love to see a quick image quality comparison (specifically low light) vs a dslr like a t2i. I know, I know, people will whine moan and complain "oh they're not the same cameras, my brain can't deal with them being compared!" but the majority of us assume there's a difference, but would really love to see an objective comparison of exactly how big the difference really is.
• We did all the studio work on the Panasonic GH2, then were told it probably wasn't production quality, so we've had to scrap most of it: this delays that review and moves it down the queue.

• We have literally just received a reviewable Samsung NX100, which will go into the queue. There are others waiting (Pentax K-5 etc) but all these won't be started for a month.

It's important to remember that a dpreview full review takes a single reviewer at least 4 solid weeks (presuming everything goes smoothly), and we only have 3 camera reviewers (hopefully more soon). This means there's always going to be a backlog when a lot of important cameras arrive simultaneously, and the nature of our in-depth reviews means that for all the pressure from the community to get 'more reviews, faster', we can only go as fast as we can. We'd get complaints if the reviews started to get more superficial or less rigorous, just as we now get complaints if we don't get them done fast enough.

Thanks a lot for posting an update on this stuff. :-) The update is appreciated by a lot of people like myself, you often just feel kind of lame saying "thanks for the udpate", so the threads get filled up with people who have a bone to pick.

Despite the criticism from others, I would like to say THANK YOU for all the hard work.

I read this site daily, sometimes even more frequently. I participate in forums, read a lot of the reviews. It is part of my daily routine.

I discovered DP Review in 2003 when I was making a huge decision at that time - spending $3500 on my first SLR. I took out a line of credit to do it. The review of the Fuji S2 Pro convinced me to go with it over the Nikon D100. I was absolutely astonished to see all the work that went into the reviews, or how much ink it took to print them off.

The reviews have also been useful in choosing subsequent cameras.

So to sum it it, thanks.

Thanks for all the good work .

If I might request one item - I 'd like to see you go back to posting the numeric results of your resolution testing jpeg and raw. My eyes are not so good anymore - af is a blessing ! - and with a cheap laptop ( screen ) its just plain hard to make comparisons between models or mfg's - leastways for me. Reading the figures off your reviews and then entering them into a spreadsheet helped, in part, me track improvements and lead to several camera purchases.

Please . . . Thanks ( ? )

Actually they charge for paper, which btw is a much more usable media than the Internet. And the costs for a website are always much lower than the costs for a printed magazine, given equal number of readers.
