As I recall, the original nick was DUZIS (for D*igital U*ltra*Z*oom I*mage S*tabilized), but since there was so much talk about the IS system, it became ISI (izzy) or DISI. Later, after the first battles for DISI supremacy, it became the TISI ( T*he I*mage S*tabilized).

Duh! I think if you actually read my post you'll see that I am well aware of the existence of a machine gun by that name - it was the camera I was curious about. My question has been more than eloquently answered by many posters, thank you.

There is absolulely no malice in this post whatsoever (disclaimer is needed here because of all the dust kicked up over the last few weeks), I just am making an observation. Heck I'm as fanatical as you guys and gals with my Apple Macintosh!

Just in case ya come across an EZI post & don't know what they're talkin about...LOL... In actuality it's the Model E100rs that shares much with "Our" beloved Uzi/C2100uz... Biggest differences being 1.4mp progressive scan CCD that shoots 15fps max as well as 7.5fps & 3 fps....No camera on the planet to date comes close in FrameRate.. The Uzi is 2mp interlaced ccd & a paltry 2.5fps. But the most important parts are Identical...The 10x, optical, Image Stabilized, zoom lens...which they share with the Canon Pro90IS. Not the highest rez machines around but with that 10x "IS" lens you can get more of the subject to fill the frame & end up with the same or better rez than higher mp cameras with the average norm 3x lenses that have been cropped.... & now more of the other camera companies are combining higher rez with up to 7x lenses which get the same or better rez but without the "IS" handholding becomes more of a difficulty factor in anything but the brightest light... Unfortunately both these cameras were introduced almost 2 years ago @ $1000+ & didn't sell till the price got down to the $500 range. Then they sold like hotcakes & obtained near cult status. Especially the Uzi & especially here. They're both discontinued & getting near impossible to find new.... But used & refirbs are slightly easier to come by.....

Richard.. UZI is a rather hip description of the Olympus C2100 UZ (ultra zoom). Pretty simple, but in that the camera is no longer available, and those of us who were fortunate enough to latch onto one before Olympus decided it was too packed with good stuff to continue to produce at the price for which it sold refer to it as a 'UZI.'
