SD9 sample pictures from Japan

Anyway, I do have a comparable filter at the right size for the
28-80II (B+W multicoated UV), so I just did a quick test at F5.6.
Adding the filter didn't help at all.
Ron, try a B&W 420 or a Haze-2A. Most so-called UV filters don't
do much of anything in the band that silicon responds to.

The fringing (CA) is less significant here than the SD9 shot. Maybe because its indoor. Wonder if a C-PL filter helps.

Even with the full-size samples, though, these are .JPG files.
Still not enough to make decisions on, except perhaps that a
polarizing filter would be a good buy if you get this camera.
For instance, I think that the banding evident in the pole of the streetlight closest to the camera is a JPEG artefact, not a problem with the camera. I can't see any problem with the sky, but fine detail on surfaces and color gradients are among the first victims of JPEG compression...

Lens chromatic aberrations are a result of good optical correction
for the
center of the visible spectrum (i.e. green) with the consequence
that light at
the ends of the spectrum (red and blue) can not be brought to exactly
the same focus -- usually worse at the edges. With classic CA, you
see red
and blue fringing -- not purple and green. All lenses (supposedly
not APO
lenses) will display some CA. I believe the purple and green
fringes are
electronic in origin.
I told ya guys, thats an electron leak!

Anyway, looks very nice for the first camera of its class. Canon's D2000 was much more shitty!

The letter "Takashimaya" at left side is neon sign of real red color .
But this camera seems to be unable to reproduce the accurate color.

Has anyone else noticed that all these color aberrations seem to only occur in areas of extremely contrasting exposure levels? I mean, where this is a very hot spot located directly beside a very dark spot, such as branches against bright skies, neon signs next to dark buildings, etc. Just a thought.

Take only pictures, leave only footprints

Here is similar example of the EOS-1D turning bright green ligts
into white and red into yellow from photo EOS-1Ds_Skyline_35mm.

Sorry I dont know how to add picture to this email.
Is this photo on a web site somewhere? If so, then type in a link (e.g. http://www.foo.invalid/my-photo ).

If the link ends in .jpg, it will be included inline. If it's too big, put a ';' after the ".jpg" (e.g.

;;)

If you don't have any website to put it on, you can e-mail it to me and I'll find a spot for it.

I was there about 2 hours ago and I agree that the coloursof the signs are inaccurate and seem to change from letter to letter. Not only that, it reproduces the neon in a very artificial and unnatural way. I almost sold my D7i and bought an SD9 at the weekend but coudn't get one. Thus far, the sample posted have been rather disappointing, and quite different from Phil's examples a few weeks back.

Is it possible that the artifacts and highlight posterisation effects are due to the RAW conversion software being ineffectively used?

Cheers Hirokun, thanks for your efforts in making these images available to the forum

Thanks Noodle-san for kind reply;
I saw your photo gallery, and realized you live in Japan.
Year, I felt same thing.
I personally have S2pro, but also interested in SD9.
So I have been waiting someone who bought SD9 uploads the image.
Recently upload started.
To say frankly, from my personal feelings, I think S2Pro can reproduce
far better image than SD9.
SD9 can take sometimes very nice image, but sometimes very cheep
image.
I think you can be happy with S2Pro, if you still haven't get SD9.

This SD-9 must have shot a lot more pictures then we're seeing so far.
Do you think the owner is posting his good ones, or just ones to show
problems that he found?

Has me made comments you can translate for us?
