Digital Cameras and cable release.

Boy,
Jarett sure does love to swing that rod doesn't he?

You know Jarett, there is a difference in helping in a way that people don't become needy, and just being a regular loud mouth.

I really don't think I would take my son to a portrait session with you. You do understand you may have some anger issues. I am being a sarcastic pr*ck and I'm being truthful. And if you want me to be abrasive, we can "rod" it out via email.

Cheers,
Z

I will bet that Jerret Works in the Information Technology world. You know, the guy that has trained his whole life for a self important job and when he gets to work the only thing that is asked of him is to "change the toner".

Did I hear you say you have someone’s IP address? heheheheeee, hard drive, processor speed, heheeeee, my video card is better than yours......Come on, how old are you?

I think it is funny but at the same time sad, and scary. Have you ever noticed the ones that walk and preach the bible openly in public are also the ones that are secluded and mad?

Tell me Jerret, what are you mad at? Is it your mother, yourself? Who inflicted this pain on you that you wish so badly to give back to others that are not as deserving as yourself?

One last question: Have you ever stared into a mirror and spoken this out loud while staring at yourself? "I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti"

You know Jerret, we cannot get to the bottom of your problems until your honest with me......I want to help! Not!
Bravo....I agree...I hate "know it alls". Keep them Newbie
questions comin!
It's an issue of being an EDUCATED CONSUMER, not being a 'know it
all'.

If we just go off and buy stuff without researching, it give Sony
the motivation to put out junky products they havent even bothered
QCing. (Like the non-focusing 717s)

And by the way, you have a typo on your Profile page, and your
domain name doesnt work. =)

Wow, Jarett. People like you are really scary.

When I was raising my two kids, they saw their share of the 'rod' but it was a last resort not the first response and it was applied with love not anger.

The first two of your Bible quotes also deal with a parent to child relationship, which is totally out of context concerning a stranger asking a simple question that deserves a courteous answer.

And as I read the Bible, Jesus only chastised his disciples when they'd done something stupid (no doubt this incident would qualify). If he'd reamed them every time they'd asked a simple question I doubt they'd have hung around for long.

Also I think 'skillful' is the key word in the quote about direction and your needlessly abrasive response hardly qualifies as skillful IMO.

Perhaps you should go back and read what the Bible has to say about love, bro.

Gordon
"He that spareth the rod hateth his son, but he who loveth him
chastiseth him betimes" (Prov. 13:24).

"Chasten thy son while there is still hope and let not thy soul
spare for his crying" (Prov. 19:18).

Proverbs 11:14 - When there is no skillful direction, the people
fall; but there is salvation in the multitude of counselors

Proverbs 6:6-11 - Go to the ant, you lazy one; see its ways and
become wise. Although it has no commander, officer or ruler, it
prepares its food even in the summer; it has gathered its food
supplies even in the harvest. How long, you lazy one, will you keep
lying down? When will you rise up from your sleep? A little more
sleep, a little more slumbering, a little more folding of the hands
in lying down, and your poverty will certainly come just like some
rover, and your want like an armed man.

If Jesus was not abrasive to his own 12 apostles, they would not
have accomplished anything when he was gone.
Quite an abrasive reply, Jarett, especially for someone with a
crucifix and a fish sign on his website. There's a Bible verse or
two I could use as a stinging rebuke, don't you think.
Sorry... but mean people suck.

I am new to this forum, having just purchased a 117. I am a
long-time (and I mean "long time") film camera user. I have two
Leicas (M & R), a Nikkormat (great old camera) and a Mamiya
med.format. All the cameras I have owned have had provision for a
cable release - a wonderful tool for a camera on a tripod. But I
have yet to hear of a digital camera, even high-end ones, that has
such a convenience. Does anyone know why this is so.?
Often wondered why that is myself, Alan.

Of course, the obvious (and cynical) answer is the digital camera companies want you to buy one of their expensive proprietary (and much more versatile) remote controls.

So instead, I use the self-timer on my F707 which is a cost-effective alternative but its 10 second delay can sometimes seem like an eternity if you're watching your shot passing you by in the interval.

I expect I'll eventually break down and buy the remote or put it on my Christmas list. Hmmm...now there's a thought. ;-)

I'd be happy with a programmable timer. Or at least a 3 second timer in addition to the 10 seconds. Life is too short to use the 7x7 fixed 10-second timer every time! For precise timing, a cable release is a must... thus... the Sony Remote Control (RM-DR1).

I often point the tripod with one hand while using the remote to zoom with my other hand.

The remote's loop is VERY handy for hanging the remote on the tripod. I use it mainly for a cable release for long exposures.

The list price is a bit high. I used my SonyStyle $20 eCoupon for a discount. But after using this remote for a couple of months, I'd pay list price for it if I had to. For precise timing and manual bracketing... it's priceless.
