relative newcomer, I have 7d + lenses relevant to question 70-200 f4 IS L and 300 f4 IS L. I want to get the 1.4 extender but don't know if I should wait for the new version in December. I read that they are optimised for the latest L series releases but surely they should show AF and other improvements with older L series as well?

any thoughts gratefullly received.

Too soon to know for sure, but my guess is the new TC will be sharper with all lenses. Unless there's some reason you need a TC right now, I'd wait.

I would wait also . If it is great , there will be a lot of II's for sale .

The MKII is around $300, the MKIII is said to be around $500.
Even if there are more MKII's for re-sale, the used price will probably go up.
Why? I am not good in economics, though. I don´t think, Canon will stop selling the MKII, so I don´t see a reason, why the used price should go up. Please explain,

thanks in advance

Just do....

70-200 2.8isMKII came out at $2500 and the old one went up $200-300. Still there.

Think of it in camera terms.
When Canon comes out with a new model, they don't make the older one anymore.

Take the 5DMKI, after the 5DMKII came out, they quit making the MKI. Yes some were still in inventory and had to be sold off, but the MKI's run was pretty much over.

Unlike cameras, lenses don't always go out of style just because a new version came out.

So, if the older version sold for $300, the new version is $500, and Canon quits selling new models of the older version, the price will probably go up on them in the used market for that older version. Considering this is just a tc, with really nothing to offer than magnification, (no i.s., no faster shutter speeds) the older model will still be sought after on the used market, at a higher price than whats it's going for now.(used)

That's my thought on it, what do you think?
