Strange Pricing on K-5 in Canada

I've always found the E-Bay camera store Pro-digital 2000 to be either a little or a lot cheaper than anywhere else in Canada. Nearly all my Pentax gear came from them. They are a reliable vendor. However just out of curiosity I checked their price on the K-5 and it's $1,621 for the body. I then checked the Camera Store in Calgary http://www.thecamerastore.com/browse/products?page=2&b=208&c=1%2C367%2C368 and they want $1,498.43 (I trust they would waive the 43 cents). I have never seen a bricks and mortar store out price Pro-digital. I wonder if this means that the price is already coming down to compete with the Nikon?

Thanks Dale but I'm aware of that. The Camera Store basically sets the low price for any store that is willing to price match. What is strange is that Pro-Digital is usually cheaper than even the Camera Store. That is to be expected as a bricks and mortar store can't match the internet vendors but usually makes up for it in service. Since the higher price is with Pro-Digital I'm thinking there was a general price drop and they are waiting until their listing periods expire before the new prices kick in. This could be really good news for anybody looking for the K-5 up here.

By the way, McBains has always matched the Camera Store but I've had much less luck with Don's Photo.

I still miss the time when Prodigital offered prices that were routinely 25% lower than "legit" stores. Nowadays they have pretty random pricing it seems, so it should be back to normal soon.

the camera store price has been really good from the start, pretty much the same as the prices i could find in japan.

they are all back-ordered though...

I've had good luck at The Camera Store. I've spent quite a bit of money there.

Don's Photo has also been pretty good to me, though. They had no problem matching price with TCS a couple of times and their service is decent.

I think B&M camera shops are trying pretty hard to do the best they can. It seems like they're getting squeezed out and they pretty much survive on patronage.

I'm old enough to worry about their loss. I'd hate to go through the cycle of buying a lens, receiving it, discover it isn't performing properly, and then have to send it to repair and wait several months. B&M stores take care of that for us. For me, that's worth a lot.

I always price check with ProDigital, and they are not always lowest. I've gotten better pricing from Don's and McBain on my last couple of lens purchases. Yesterday when I looked up the DA*300, Aden Camera was lower, but today I see ProDigital has scooped them.

If I am not wrong, Pro-Digital will not charge you any sale tax. So, they are still the cheapest.

Depends on what province you live in. They charge 13% HST in Ontario.
