>>>>>Olympus Challenge #144-Doors<<<<<<

I took an hour off work at lunchtime today and the weather was great but I didn't get anything I consider good enough to enter. Oh well, tomorrow is another day.

Barry

I have maybe one entry, just haven't had time to even get it entered. Today we are doing last minute things before Mick leaves. My wireless printer hasn't worked properly since day one, so going to work on that, and I bought an Elliptical machine that is laying behind me here in the office ready to assemble. My son came last night to help bring the main piece upstairs, that was heavy!

Anyway, I do hope you find something to and from work or maybe this weekend. Remember, sometimes the worse the weather the better the end results of a photo. It's blowing up to 60mph winds here today. That's why I'm hunkering down today. I'm not going to blow away even if I did go out there. hahaha

The e-5 seems to be a fine camera, but it is out of my photography project (if there's any), as well as the SHG lenses. I'm just a hobbyist and I can't justify to myself such purchases (this is true for me, I don't judge in any way what others do). A camera like the e-620 is far good enough for me, although I know it has its flaws and weaknesses, so the end of this line of cameras eliminates the natural choice for replacing/updating the current. Pens perform worse (at this day) than the e-XXXs, and are as expensive as any entry level camera, dedicated lenses are in general more pricey than 4/3 standard lenses. I can't see a good deal there.

So, what I'm planning to do? Enjoy my fantastic camera some years, and watch from the fence where the industry of cameras goes!

...it seems that I'll be around here for a while me too ;o)

Just back from vacation and a good long one at that. My batteries are recharged and am ready for another trip. One could get used to being pampered. But unfortunately, I have to work and save up some more money so we can go on another one.

The photos are great and what a fun subject. I will certainly vote.

Tried to salvage one of yesterday's by tweaking it a bit (straightening, skewing, cropping, sharpening) and entered it into the comp. I was bit too casual about shooting it and if I get another chance I may try to take it properly.

Cheers, Barry

Debating with myself that is....

I'm doing enough payed stuff that I really need to consider another body so the E-5 is a natural choice.....but it is so expensive at £1450 !!

Thus I am considering my options - I will keep the E3 though so I'm here for a while :-)

I'm still wondering what happened to the E-4? HA! I know my poor ol' E-300 is near death, the little knob/wheel that is on the top to change setting with, it is a bit stripped and I have to turn it oh so gently! I have to start looking at the newer bodies or looking at Nikon (I'm thinking about it but no time soon!) I just don't know what I'm going to do. Just keep shooting with what I've got.

Not to make this into yet another e-5 thread, but i'm really interested in the thougts from this gang. Will Kleivis and I be alone here in a years time ?
Well, I am very happy with my E3 and it has many many more shutter releases left in it. I wore out my E510 in just over two years :( but should have at least three more years left in the E3 :). So I'm not going any where else any time soon. I'd love to get an E5 - it seems like an amazing machine and the Olys are just so comfortable in my hands AND I like the image quality no matter what the pixel peepers say. But it's pretty darned expensive and, for that price, I'd rather get a 7-14 first (largely thanks to the pics I see from you and Erik ;)). Maybe if I win the lottery . . . but I guess I'd have to buy a ticket?

Me too, I've taken a look in the Nikon stables, since I'm a former nikonist... and this new D7000 looks to be damn good. But three things stopped me to switch brands finally:
  • First and most important: No more Oly challenges. Yes, I know I could post in exhib, but it's not the same...
  • Secondly: I would have to rebuild my (humble) range of lenses. Expensive, and I've no clue of how to start, equivalences, quality, brands, etc. I feel VERY lazy about.
  • Thirdly: Nobody knows where the photography industry is going now. Maybe in some (4-5?) years ALL brands are producing mirrorless instead of entry level and prosumer DSLR, so a switch of brands would reveal to be a vain (and very expensive) move.

about all those exact same things. And then I'm so dumb I can't even get a printer to work, I don't know if my learning curve is up for a brand change on cameras.

I almost fried my computer the other day, trying to get my stupid printer to work. It is brand new and I've used it a total of ONCE! I bought it almost a year ago. It is an HP so you would think it would work fine with an HP computer. I finally figured out I didn't have the proper drivers and got them installed and decided I wouldn't even try to use the wireless feature (the reason I bought it in the first place) and just plugged the USB into the back of the computer.

Not only did the printer still not work but the computer shut down and said it would not restart. I did what the screen said and it did a repair thing, it couldn't repair the damage but said to unplug any new devices. Arrgggg! I don't dare plug that printer back in. I'm not prepared to replace this computer. It took me forever to save up for it.

Sometimes I almost feel like giving up photography and starting up painting, it would be waaaaaayyyy cheaper and less stress, LOL I have enough photographs to keep me painting forever. Ho Hummmmm.

Well, I'm pretty sure I won't be buying one - it's just too expensive. It's difficult to see at this moment where things are going but I feel that Olympus has really left enthusiasts with nowhere to go and that's sad.
