10 of 10,000 - My K-7 Journey (10 Images)

They're all fantastic. I specially love the chain and the portrait (self?, watch out for the dandrufs :) ).

It's the singer not the song.

Quite impressive, fifth and the last were weak, I thought!

Very good indeed.

I thought I read somewhere the K-7 wasn't supposed to be able to take sharp pictures ? :)

Outstanding work: very well done and thanks for posting these. Something to aspire to...

Very nice with samples of almost everything. Guess the hardest part was selecting those 10.

great series !! wow you got 10k in 4 months !! nice job... Lol. i got up to about 3-4k but if i had more time on my hands i can easily see myself doing as much or more... coming from Ds2 its just a pleasure using K-7 and every time i do so i am amazed how many images i shoot. I still keep, carry, and use my old Ds2 that produces great photographs as well but thanks to all the improvements Pentax has incorporated into their new bodies the usability is like night and day. It seems like K-5 is another winner can't wait to see whats next in order but for now i am loving my K-7 as much as it seems you do. Congrats on your purchase and keep sharing great pictures.

Absolutely fantastic shots!
Thanks!
The dragonfly and bee in flight are truly impressive, congratulations!
Cheers!
What was your technique for these shots?
Thanks.
I find that I'm using a hybrid manual focus system to shoot Dragonflies in flight, often using the AF button to lock onto a surrounding area, and then using the MF ring to adjust it back to actually see the dragonflies. (not fun @ 500mm) This takes a lot of coordination and effort to do quickly enough to get the shot of them using the left hand for stabilization, focus and also zoom, all before they zigzag away across the reflective pond. 1/4000th & higher @ ISO1600 and f/8.0 were used mainly.

Fantastic series.
Can you pls share what lens you were using, and your settings ?
Thanks
Thanks, They were taken with various lenses, the Portrait & Chain were from the FA77 Ltd, the Lizards, birds, kangaroos are all from the Sigma 50-500 with OS. (Bigma) and the first picture of the tulip is from the Pentax D-FA 100mm WR Macro, and the other flower (5th shot) is from the new (this week) Pentax A-50mm f/1.2 lens.

I still have an UWA lens to acquire next.... :)

Most of the shots have the full EXIF in tact, check out the flickr page and click on EXIF info... Occasionally shots like the Chain have it removed when i exported it in the early days, but i can dig it out from the original .DNG. If you can't find one specifically let me know as i have no problem sharing the info.

Thanks Mike, very flattered that you find them inspiring... Thanks!

Very good indeed.
Thanks!
I thought I read somewhere the K-7 wasn't supposed to be able to take sharp pictures ? :)
Yes and apparently too noisy @ 1600 and suffers from shutter blur too, but somehow it didn't seem apparent to me.... ;)
Quite impressive, fifth and the last were weak, I thought!
Thanks, yes i said "my 10 favorite" not my 10 best! ;) I did want some variety, for example the A-50mm f/1.2 (5th shot) was only taken yesterday as I've only had the lens for 3 days now, so it was there for it's f/1.2ness. :)
Fantastic. Especially the chain and lizard. Would be great to see the EXIF data on these..especially the chain.
Thanks, the EXIF info on the lizards should be there, the chain EXIF info was somehow lost in post, but i will dig the DNG details out for you, I know it's f/1.8, ISO 100 and 77mm..
They're all fantastic. I specially love the chain and the portrait (self?, watch out for the dandrufs :) ).
Yes, it's a self portrait (ugghhh!) And yes damn FA77 showing dandruff with it's amazing detail and resolution even at f/1.8. I have now changed to ACME's new lemon scented "Pentax proof" dandruff control shampoo and conditioner. ;)
