Hi,

I am a new 7Hi user. In the picture correction process I am also quite new and using different tools (like PS6, i-view ...).

The trouble is at the end of the process all the file informations are lost !

So I would really appreciate an existing tool which would be able to Export (import is maybe less important for the moment) the Information Data of a group of RAW, TIF, JPEG ... files (from my Minolta Camera) into a text file or into an excel file ?

Any idea

Eric

On page 24 of the Dimage Viewer 2.1 manual, it says:

"Image information can be saved as a special text file. Simply select single or multiple thumbnails and then select save-image-information option from the file menu; the save-as dialog box will open."

I haven't tried it myself.

Thanks, I should learn to read documentation !

So it's now OK for EXPORT proprietary information, what's about IMPORTing information in any RAW, TIF, JPEG files (after modifications through different tools) ... in order to be able to :
  • keep the information inside the definitive photo
  • view this information with Dimage Viewer
  • browse any picture on the camera ... and with video cable : on any TV !?

I'm not a PhotoShop user, but I would think there would be an option to save EXIF data after processing an image, unless maybe you are combining two images, etc.

Is there a third-party program which will import EXIF data into an image?
I don't know, but there are some knowledgable members on this forum.

You might try Bryan Biggers forum, and the PCTOOLS forum and RETOUCHING forum:

There are so many effects you can do after post-processing, but I wonder if EXIF or some other standard could/should not be expanded to reflect some of the basic post processing done to images. If nothing else, EXIF/etc should reflect what program(s) have been used to modify the image.

William,

What are you calling EXIF, is it a nomarlized name for what I am calling "file information (speed, aperture ...)" ???

BTW, I have followed your suggestion an posted this question to the other forums.

Ermut,

I had a very similar question... I have many pictures I have taken with other cameras (non digital) and even pictures I have scanned in. I wanted to be able to add info to my files such as date, time, ISO, and other EXIF data.

I have tried many programs and submitted many questions. I have not found a definitave answer yet, but I was told that much of this is still up in the air.

What I mean to say is, apparently they (not sure who they are) want to make this data hard to edit and prevent software companies from publishing programs that allow you to edit this data... They want to be able to use it in court or for other legal purposes...

Again this is just what I recieved from some of my requests.

Hope that helps.

Eric
Eric,

If you use Dimage Viewer to show image information, it shows two categories:

Image Information
...
EXIF Information
....

Here is a link which explains EXIF and its purpose. Fortunately or unfortunately, it is a standard developed by Japanese manufacturers.

ermut,

I don't use PS and I'm not familiar wit it's fetures, but Corel Photo-paint 11 completely preserves all the info, stored in the jpegs. It was a big problem for me as I do not want to lose this data - it made me develop a dedicated application to backup ad restore the data.

Now absolutely the best for SIMPLE editing (rotation, exposure, etc.) is ACDSee 5.0. It completely preserves all the data and allows editing of some of them (author, copyright, dates, etc.). It's even possible to preserve the file dates or change them to the the EXIF date (put by the camera, the actual date/time).
The combination of ACDSee 5.0 and Corel Photo-Paint is perfect for me.

All the data digicams store with pict are in EXIF format. Different versions exist. EXIF itself comes from the TIFF 6.0 specification. Some additional data can be derived from the jpeg (not the exif header) also.
