I'm looking for a next panasonic cam becouse i liked my TZ7 so much but i lost this cam grggrrg.
The FZ-100 looks greath on paper but when i compared the pictures
from the FZ-35 with the pictures from the FZ-100 on image recourse:

http://www.imaging-resource.com/IMCOMP/COMPS01.HTM

i had to cry my god what a difirance in quality ! (sharpness noise)
I really want to like the FZ-100 but i just can't.
Panasonic what happened?
is the the difirance between a CCD versus CMOS sensor?
Or is it the pixel dens. ( 14 mil) in the sensor.
What u think?
Hans.

TZ7 is 10MP and I think it is the limit for the sensor...Very good images...

FZ35/38 has the same size sensor and it is 12 MP. More noise and more noise reduction...But I have to say the pics from this baby is very good...

TZ100 has the same size CMOS but 14 MP is too much for a tiny sensor. And some are complaining about the image quality..some is happy...more noise and more noise reduction in camera....

Panny should put a 10MP sensor inside FZ100.....may be a slight larger sensor....

I wonder the new panny.. FZ150 or 200 whatever...is it going to be a 16 MP in the same sensor...(it will be the noise king)...but in the same time some will jump on it...Why people need more resolution I don't understand...May be they print their personal photos in A3 or A2.... :-)

Panny has to think more what they are doing... Put a slightly bigger new 10 max 12MP sensor in FZ100 body...Thats what I want...

Normally for a shooter like me 6-8MP is more than enough...

but I'm trapped in megapixelmania tooo...but not much....

FZ100 is nice after you master it and learn the limitations you can be very happy with it...

Good luck...

so many Consumers don't know crap about cameras and see MEGA MEGAPIXALS numbers for cheap and want it. Look at all the Ipod users who brag about 5 megapixals on theyre phone

TZ7 (ZSZ3) uses a 12 MP CCD sensor,as does the 12MP FZ35/38.They are not the same exact CCd sensors,as the TZ7 uses a different type,to get maximum use,out of all 3 aspect ratio's .It's actually wider than 25mm,if used in the 3:2 or 16:9 aspect ratio. But it's a 12MP CCD, as the FZ35/38 , with 10MP (effective)

instead of knocking down the FZ100, why not look at many posts here of users who are getting GREAT images without post-process out of FZ100? in the hands of knowledge the camera delivers awesome results.... But of course noone wants to read the manual first.... Good luck and keep trying, you will love it, I DO !!

:D Grazie, Thank you, - Sal

You don't buy a car by just reading other people's opinion. You have to test drive up it yourself! Buy the camera and return it if you are not happy. I think the setting on the camera sample you saw is not ideal. As suggested by most users, you have to set the camera to -2NR, +1 sharpness, 0 saturation or experiment yourself. But honestly, I think you are just one of those people who want to get attention because if you are really serious in buying the camera then you will appreciate the high quality images that are posted by happy owners almost everyday. They have already proven this image issue many times over beyond reasonable doubt.

I guess my eyes aren't what they used to be. The FZ100 photos don't look that bad to me. I love the speed of this camera along with the HD video. That's whole idea behind the sensor they used.
I'll get more shots this weekend. Just no time right now.

I think that those imaging-resource comparisons must surely be wrong because there's no way the FZ-100 results would be as incredibly poor and low-quality as compared to the ZS3 , as can be seen in these real-pixel (PNG) extracts fro the comparisons at the site you mention:

"New outdoor"

.

"Macro"

.

Base ISO

.

ISO 400

.

ISO 1600

.

As I said, the FZ-100 results are so bad , both in absolute terms and in comparison with the ZS3 's that I'd rather believe they didn't conduct the tests properly and/or used a defective camera.

Have you posted any of your high quality FZ100 pictures here?

You promote this cam as the bee's knees here on a daily basis.

Care to show us the proof?

I mean, if it's so great, why aren't you out shooting pictures instead of shouting about it here?

You're becoming a bit shrill over the subject.

The thing is these examples are pixel level, which is important to some people, myself included. I figure if the detail isn't there to begin with it can't be added later, but sharpening is often added to fool the eye at smaller sizes. However others, especially the FZ100 users are mainly concerned with how they look at smaller sizes. Fair enough, they are the ones that chose the camera.

I don't think any of mine have looked quite that bad, but I'll have to go back and look at them again now.

It's clear Panasonic was not trying to match the IQ of the ZS3 when they chose to install this sensor. They instead made a camera that has a very nice performance in speed, full HD video and reasonably good image quality.

That fact that consumers expected it to match or exceed something like the ZS3 is where the problem is. They're looking for and expecting something in the wrong place.

And yes, kernow, I definitely chose it for the speed. I already knew what the image quality was when I looked online (for the most part). And I already have cameras that will run circles around it in image quality, when I need that.

I really couldn't care less what it looks like at pixel level. For me, the usage of this camera is simply for fun. Casually shooting while running around doing things. It's easy to carry. Actually I'm carrying the LX5 with it. Not sure why, it's just a fun little camera also. And they're both so small and light. Nice IQ from that one.
