I dont post a whole lot here but I like to read and see others photos. Im always looking for inspiration and lots of great people post their work.

Every now and then I get an original idea of my own. I hadnt seen anything like this before anyway.

My family and I took a trip to England to see my extended family (Mom, Dad, Grandmother, Sister, Niece). I was born there, came to the the US 10 years ago and have been here ever since. I took my K10D FA50, Sigma 10-20 and the kit 18-55 as a walkaround. After going around Leeds Castle I was showing the pictures to my Gran on her TV, and realized that if I hold down the > button to flip through the images in the camera it sort of made a stop motion movie. Thats what gave me this idea. From that point on I stopped deleting images that I might have otherwise discarded (glad I had plenty of Gb on the card!).

Got home and imported all of them (about 400 in all) into Windows Movie maker. All I had to do then was tinker with the slide durations, and transitions and upload to Youtube. None of the photos have had any PP done, just Jpegs straight out of the camera, some were taken with the intention of doing HDR or stitching but I just threw them all in - I think its interesting anyway. See for yourself:

Thanks for sharing your vacation shots. This is an excellent way of sharing the flavour.

I like it. Good Idea. Putting the music in was a nice addition. I'll steal your idea for my next trip, if you don't mind.

I think you did a marvelous job of putting this together......i've used MM for slide shows too but not nearly 400 photos and shortening the views as you did for each pic. It has me to thinking and I might play around with it.......

Your daughter is quite the ham and very photogenic....

Well done

What a wonderful idea and what a great series--I love what you did, and I have wanted to do that so many times and never have--some of the shots were obviously just snapshots, but some of them were just lovely portraits--is that your daughter? (The little blonde girl?) She's absolutely adorable. And Bittersweet Symphony was a perfect choice--it went along so well with the slideshow. Thanks for telling us HOW you did it--I tried doing a timelapse movie using a different program this past spring of clouds moving across the sky above my backyard very quickly but even taken as low-res jpegs, that many images really slowed my old computer down and the program didn't work so well. I do have Windows Movie Maker, I believe, especially on my new and dynamically fast laptop (processing panos and such has never been easier!) so I will retry with WMM and also I intend to try what you've done with my next family vacation! Thanks again for sharing and glad you got to see your grandmother and spend that special time with her. Best wishes, Cindy

Hi,

Yes the little girl in most of the photos is my daughter, and shes very comfortable in front of the camera. Shes only 3-1/2 but she actually has a little digital camera of her own which she loves. She also loves animals. My sister who still lives in England owns a horse which also features, and our Niece is in the video near the end.

Funnily enough I didnt shoot any of these pictures with a video in mind. Even the car dashboard shots with a slow shutter I was just playing around, but it brings some context to the video because we did a lot of driving on the trip!

Then by chance my niece had a birthday party at the end of the trip and those were the last photos I took - her trying to blow out the sparkler at the end of the video - cut to black and it worked out nice.

Fun times. Thanks for all the comments.
