hi all,

Just wondering how likely is it for someone to release a hacked firmware for the 60D that allows MFA?

There is a hacked firmware out there for the 400D that allows ISO3200 and spot metering, neither are supported in the offiial firmware...

so, just wondering how likely is it? As the lack of MFA is such a show stopper for me.....

JMHO, but I wouldn't rely on a hacked firmware to get MFA...7D has the feature, made by and supported by Canon....spend the extra to get the features you want....

Whatta Hobby this Photography stuff is! Expensive!

Isn't a better idea to put your hands on one of these new cameras and figure out if it's works for you instead to wait for a hacked firmware?

I used CHKDSK firmware hack on my canon point/shoot to unlock full manual control over my camera. However, people seem to stuck at Digic III processor and unable to decipher or crack its codes.

The older Digic II camera has been cracked. You can upload the and unlock iso3200 on Digic II DSLR like Canon XT (350d) and Canon XTi (400d).

Beyond that, the success is rather limited. Many people who own Canon 500d (T1i) with a Digic IV processor has been wishing for an hack firmware for a long time. As does the Digic III DSLR like Canon XSi (450d) and Canon 40d.

I doubt we'll see any hack firmware anytime soon. If they can't crack Digic III DLSR, I doubt they can crack Digic IV DSLR

Then it will be trivial. As will enabling Canon basic for things like scripted timelapse, etc. I'm wagering both are in the firmware (based on previous firmwares that have been cracked). I need to do a couple quick checks on a few things (which I'm planing if I ever get time in the next few days).. if I could get the Canon firmware to somehow run a cbasic script, dumping the firmware would be easy.. then it's pretty trivial to see if MFA is in there. And if it can run cbasic (crossing fingers, my first attempt failed, but it was half-arsed), then cbasic can actually patch the firmware on the fly...

Not really true. Magic lantern relies on a firmware hack and it runs on the 550D right now (in alpha). CHDK isn't the only alternate firmware out there.

I'm certain that MFA relies on the hardware - you can't fix focus in software, right?

It's obvious you aren't really up on the latest DSLR hacking. The Magic Lantern project runs on the 5D II and on the T2i - progress was made on the 7D front until the main developer hit a roadblock and couldn't flash updates to his 7D anymore so gave up.

The 60D could get a Magic Lantern port if someone cared enough to spend the time to do it, and if Canon didn't put extra effort into locking it down.

That is what I'm talking about:

At the end of the day, what exactly has Magic Lantern manged to to? Hack a wallpaper, woopy doo!

Where is the Hack Firmware? Is it useable? Is it even useful? NO!

I am aware of Magic Lantern, like I say, much promised / much hype, in the end, it amount to nothing.

Unless you can show me an actual firmware on crack 50d/T1i/T2i/7D, I win the argument.

The alpha firmware with onscreen audio meters on a 550D.. it's on youtube if you want to see it (or their site).
