After much procrastinating and searching of various forums I have finally ordered a C 730 instead of the Fuji 3800 I was going to purchase. I am now waiting for a flurry of posts advising me the error of my decision and list of problems people have had with the 730. To those whose posts have helped me make up my mind, thank you.

I am awaiting the delivery of my new C-730 as well. My decision was between a Minolta Dimage 7i or hi and the 730. I chose fewer megazpizels, longer zoom lense and smaller.

That 10 X zoom is quite appealing isn't it.

I also ordered one yesterday which competed with Fuji's 3800, S602z and canons S40. I agree the zoom is the biggest selling point and its a shame that IS wasn't incorporated. I've been advised by many to invest in a UV filter with an extension barrel. This allows the lens to extract / retract within this housing making it a bit more bulky, but the OLY lens is the beauty behind this camera so preserve it !! Here its AU$1340 including RM-1 remote, 64 and 32 cards. I'm getting anxious waiting for this beast!!

I ordered mine with the CLA-4E Lens Adapter as I had heard the same. I have been unsure as to which filter to use. At this stage its going to be to protect the lens as currently my photgraphic ability is strictly point, shoot and hope for the best. Suggestions on filters would be welcome. In Aus. it was $1300 for camera + 128 mb XD + lens adapter.

In regards to filters, most people choose to get the UV and a Polarizer (either circular or linear). The best advice I can give is to get multi-coated filters if you can. They are a bit more expensive, but will last longer as they tend to be less easily scratched. Is it really a savings of money if an item is ruined sooner and has to be replaced? You will probably be able to use any filters that you buy on your next digital camera as long as it has threads, so they could possibly be of use for many years. Hoya tends to be a good blending of quality and reasonable pricing, B+W is excellent quality but generally higher priced. Enjoy your Oly C-730.

I am awaiting my 730 also. I bought it at buydig.com for $496 including shipping. This looks like another good experience with buydig.

I concur with the UV filter and circular polarizer. I'd suggest the adapter that ends in 52mm. ebay has many on sale, including 47th St. Photo where I bought mine. It's kind of amazing in that with the two Raynox lenses I have, my range is 19mm to almost 700mm. If you haven't allready, join us at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Olympus-C730/

It is for me since I've had to pass up bird shots and on a vacation to Maine earlier this month I could see some great shots through my 8 power binoculars but couldn't take a picture with my camera (3x optical)

I'm waiting for the price to drop a little bit more on buydig. It seems to drop by 5 to 10 dollars a week (if not faster). I see they are also offering a $50 rebate if you order a HP 7xxx printer with it. A pretty good deal since I need a good photo printer.

BTW, I just sold my C-720 on eBay (which I bought from buydig). I was happy to get $340 for it considering you can find a brand new one for a little bit more.

If one has any good camera stores in their town that sell used equipment, its a good place to get filters. Much cheaper than new and you can usually find some good quality used ones and a chance of getting some hard to get sizes like 43-46mm.

I just got my Olympus C-730uz. First impressions: smaller than I thought. well packaged. nice lense cap with string fastener compared to the C-2020 which I still have.

Took some inside pictures wtih the zoom. The flash seems to be a definite iprovement over the one on the C-2020. Once you slowly exhale while taking a full zoom picture it comes out great. I rushed the first couple and while it produces an artistic blurry effect I quickly learned to slow down.

At my normal printing density of 240dpi the pictures are approximately 1 1/2 inches larger in each direction.

The first menu item I'm going to learn to adjust is the function that allows me to turn off the power on music and the click shutter sound. The latter sounds like an old cheap poorly made camera shutter sound. Folks, this is not a quality speaker.

What I haven't gotten to work in Camedia 4.0 recognizing my camera and uploading pictures to the computer. I'm running Windows 2000 which is suposed to work fine with Camedia 4.0.

However since the camera Xd card is recognized as just another drive off a USB port it's easy to upload them just like I do off a standard SmartMedai USB reader.

That's it for now. I have to go take some outside shots.
