Thinking of the long run?

My current budget is $550(and even then that is pushing it a bit). The G2 while nice is a bit more than what I want to spend at $600+. Again I prefer video support, so the G1 is out. I would love a tilting screen as my S2IS has it. I guess I will sleep on it and see if I feel the same way about the choice I might have made. But, you do bring up a valid point about the zoom lens and handling.
Wait for the GH2 and pick up a G2 or GH1 (etc.) on ebay ;-)

Well, video isn't the full intent if it really was I think I would stick out a bit longer with my S2IS, and save extra for the GH1 or if lucky GH2. As long as video quality is equal than my current cam with the ability to zoom when filming I am cool with it. I am more into longer zoom as that is what I am use to, and been using since 2005-2006.

Are you saying that once the GH2 is released that the GH1 and G2 would be cheaper? If I like beg or borrow a little more I can get the G2 for about $575free shipping and no California tax) open box from Amazon warehouse deals, which is really nice.

The G10 is 399.99 at costo.com with free shipping and a 4GB SD card.

I debated between the E-PL1, G2 and the G10 but I am going to try the G10 first and see how it goes. Heck I used to think the EVF on some of the old Kodak and Canon super zooms were fine so I doubt that it will be that big of a deal to me but only time will tell.

I am with you on the MPEG-4 video format. I like it much better than AVHCD but I have to deal with it since AVHCD is becoming more and more popular.

That is not bad, specially if you live in a state where your not taxed(I am). I am set on the G2, but maybe I have to think how important is the articulating display, since both EVF are an upgrade however you put it. Do you think the G10 would be carried in store, if I decide upon it?

At costco, it's online only but with free shipping and it still has their great 90 day return policy - nothing to lose...

Yes & no. They're small cameras, to be sure. But the G1/10/2 etc. aren't exactly big. If you're thinking about any of these cameras, anything other than the pancake lenses will make them unpocketable; for me, a non-issue. For you? Only you can tell. It really comes down to PERSONAL PREFERENCE, unless you're doing something for which a particular model is designed; if video is a major concern, then I'd get a GH1 or 2. I also would probably only get the 14-140mm lens if I were shhoting video, since (I think) the optical quality, while pretty good, is like all really long zooms: a lot of compromises.

I use the 45-200mm on my GF1 for some things (like birding). While its definitely front-heavy, I don't find it a problem at all. Every camera I've ever used (outside of old Nikon F5's or the Canon full frame models our 7D or the Oly E-3) is front-heavy with long telephotos. I just hold the lens instead of the body. Plus, at least with my own 45-200, there's absolutely no "lens creep", so I don't have to worry about where I've left the zoom setting.

Why can't panny give us a GH10, where the only difference is a lower evf, no articulating screen, and smaller stereo mics at a price that is marginally lower. I know I would get that over the G2 with the 14-42 lens if prices were similar.
