Hi,

I find myself looking through the camera, then pushing the select button with one finger and scrolling the wheel with my thumb, then trying to switch and hold the select button with my thumb and scroll the top wheel with a finger, usually having to pull my face away from the camera to reset my fingers...

Anyone have a faster way to change AF points when composing a shot? I feel like I get the model posed, then I'm fiddling with the camera while the expression is fading from the client's face.

Look at page 29 and 30 in the manual. You get 6 seconds to make an AF point selection with the top dial after pressing the AF button once (don't need to hold it down). Otherwise manual focus would be quick. Focus recompose works, but not real well.

Check out the following PDF:

Using the custom functions it shows three different ways to select AF points, control when the AF is on and how to program those into personal functions so you can easily switch between them. I use the event mode (pg 17) for everything and the action (pg 19) mode works excellent for birds in flight.

Can you tell? I picked my poison well.

Set CF III 3 -> 1 (multi controller direct) - you can select any point with one click of the joystick. Press the af point selector button to go back to all points.

Thumb hits select then returns to the wheel.
Finger never leaves the front dial, shutter area.

Never look up from the viewfinder as you move wheel and dial and it'll be come second nature, should be able to move both axes at the same time.
Have you got the E1 hand grip?

I was holding down the AF select button, which was REALLY awkward. Pressing it once and then dialing in works!
