More from Egypt [13 PICS]

Hi Dominique,
It was my first time in Egypt.

We stayed mostly in El Gouna to kitesurf and dive, but spent the last 3 days in Cairo and in the White Desert which wasn't originally planned at all. It was an incredible experience, especially sleeping under the stars... The Milky Way was so bright, it was litterally popping out of the sky.
Wow, you are pretty adventurous for a first time in Egypt. But sleeping under the stars in the white desert is a great experience.
Where did you go during your trip to Egypt and what did you do?
My last trip to Egypt was a round trip. It started in Cairo and went first to Alexandria, then heading to El Alamein before going from oasis to oasis (Siwa, Bahariya, Farafra, Dakhla, Kharga) down to Abu Simbel. This included of course the Black Desert, Aghabat, White Desert. If interested, my photos of the trip are under

Awesome photo's, amazing clarity and detail.

I have a pentax K20D, and I'm only just beginning, I have it mostly in green auto mode still.

I was wondering about a good all purpose wide angle lens, and I think finding your photos has answered my questions. I think I will look at the Sigma 17-70, or the pentax DA 12-24.

Many thanks.....Glen.

White Desert and Siwa Oasis . My next travel to Egypt . But truth be told , Nile cruising
was so nice .

Well, the desert trip didn't go smoothly at all. The organization was catastrophic at best (very bad experience with the beduins), but it was still beautiful. Next time we'll be more cautious for sure!

Thanks for pointing out your Egypt gallery. Very nice pictures indeed. I'm very surprised to see how little crowded the Sphinx looks on your photos. When did you visit? When we were there it was pretty much Disney Land!

Thank you, Jay.

I started taking photos not so long ago, back in 2007 with a K10D my first DSLR. For some reason I was never into photography before and with the digital age, I decided to give it a try. I haven't looked back since :)

What's great with digital is that you can practice, test, and see instantly what does what. Nothing better to learn: lots of practice, trials and errors and you'll see that you'll learn very quickly :)

I think the best walk-around lens in the market that is still wide-angle is the "old" Sigma 17-70 f/2.8-4.5 (the one without OS in the lens). It's the best value by far IMO.

You get a great range, very descent speed and pseudo macro, all in one package! I just wish Sigma would release a WR version of it.

If you want to go wider than 17mm, then I really recommend the DA 12-24: it's the sharpest zoom I've ever used. Very sharp straight from f/4 at all focal lengths.
Otherwise the Sigma 10-20 is good if you get a good sample and it goes wider.

You'll find the photos from this gallery on my flickr page, plus many others. There, you can see the EXIF info and which lens was used.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions :)
