hi there! new to the nikon forum...

am currently considering purchasing a cp4500 and an es-e28 slide adapter, and i just need to confirm whether digital zoom is required when using the adapter? i read somewhere that it does, but not sure if it's really the case, so need to confirm. :)

i initally needed just a film scanner, but after reading up a bit, it looks like the es-e28+coolpix cam combo is good enough for that task, plus i get an everyday digicam to use as well. :)

it's the nikon slide adapter for the coolpix series... it allows you to take digital pics of your slides and negatives... making your coolpix function like a film scanner. :)
Sorry, I can offer not help, but I'm curious. What is es-e28
adapter and what does it do?

Feedback appreciated! :)

I don't have the adapter, but I do scan slides by taking a picture of them over the lightboard (when I need to get it done quickly, or when the film scanner isn't working). I have had good resilts, I hold the camera about 2" off the slide, and shoot with the built in slide adapter mode; I only need about 1/2 of the optical zoom.

You can check out some of my results in my photo.net gallery:

Note that these were not done with the adapter so they aren't as sharp as one can get with it, I think. Then again I have never had the adapter.

I have the Coolpix 995 and ES-E28. I find it easy to produce good digital photos from slides, but I have not yet had satisfactory colour balance from negatives. I'm still working on that.
You should not use digital zoom with the ES-E28.

Digital zoom is not needed since the coverage of the zoom at macro setting is mid-zoom and quite well within the dimensions of a slide or negative.

Use longer exposures and smaller f-stop settings.
