Hi,

Maybe you know Furrukh of the Nikon forum. I like his work a lot. So i have tried to cover his setup (poor mens solution). Here are my first results.
I would like to know which of the 3 pics you like more (2 of them are
with the F505V, one is with the CP990).

Best regards,

Andreas

hum, i really prefer the last one , after comes the first one , the center

Hi Andreas!
Tough one, really.
This is how I ranked them: rose2, then rose3, then rose1. Why? Read on.

rose2 - I'm not a fun of overexposed images, and neither low contrast nor washed out images appeal to my eyes. So the clear winner is rose2. Its not perfect though, I wish there are more light coming from the lower left of the rose.

rose3 - almost similar to rose1 (IMO). I prefer the placement of the light source of this from rose1.

rose1 - I would have selected this from rose2, only IF its not overexposed. Overall lighting is well-balanced, except that I don't like the position of the light coming from the right. It has one advantage though, it brought out details to the edges of the petals.
Oh well ... those are my opinion, my taste.
:)

Hi,

I really only only liked rose3, the other two looked like cartoon images.

Andreas -

This feels like a trap. :)

I'm not going to comment as the composition for each flower is too different from the others for me to give any of them fair ranking. I'm not happy with any of them.

Hi Andreas,

I prefer second rose. It's a little bit dark, but colors on my crappy monitor (I'm at work) look vivid. First one is overexposed, with unnatural light green stalk.
Last one is ugly as well (despite nice details), cause it's bluish (f505v?).

BTW, will you reveal a secret which one was taken using Nicon camera?

Andreas, after the poll, are you going to post the UNRETOUCHED images of the three roses ?
I hope you will ... or else .... :)

Hi,

As someone have said (Ulysses), the composition varies too much from one to other.

The two first seem artificial. I clearly prefer the third, even if the blue dominance is not real.

Colours on the first 2 are funky...unnatural.
Like number 3.

aloha!

Frances.

Teddy,

The intention of me wasn't to make an most natural shot of a rose ( i think
i would try this with daylight) it was playing with a flash setup.
I still like No.1 because of its artificiality.

Andreas

Ulysses,

No not a trap. The intention wasn't to make a shot which come closest to
the reality. It was just playing with a flash setup.

I still like Nr.1 (because of it's artificiality), Nr.3 come closest to the original
but it looks a kind of dull because of the desaturation.

In which mode was #1 shot? Did you use the flash with Twilight+ mode? I was able to achieve similar results in other shots when using Twilight+ mode along with a flash.

Ulysses,

The mode was shutter priority. I don't use Twilight+ with the slave flash because of the problems with it's synchronization.

Andreas

Speaking of the flash, do you like the W.B. that you are generally getting from your slave flash?

Ulysses,

I read your discussion and investigation regarding the white- balance with Pondria and the others.
Maybe my observations are absolutely wrong. But it seems if the lightening
is sufficient the WB is okay, if it is too dark there is too much blue.

Regarding the results with the slave flash. They are okay in my opinion.
Beside this (bizarre) rose shots i made some portraits with my new setup.
The results were okay.

Andreas
