im a big noob when it comes to camera or taking pictures for that matter. i had a zs7 that i lost after a month of use - got drunk and lost it somewhere :( anyway i love the concert videos i took using it. i also love the zoom! im more of a point and shoot guy but i dont mind experimenting if given the chance as i did notice the limitations of zs7. imo, it was the best 'gig camera' ive ever used! im hoping itz the same way with fz100 and shld even be better coz of itz swivelling monitor.

the vendor site im looking at doesnt have a spare battery for it yet.. at least, itz not posted. :( im planning a trip next week and i really need a camera to bring along with me. anybody know how long the battery lasts so i can at least have an idea when i start pointing and clicking. or does anyone know of a site where i can buy a spare battery. TOMORROW (or tonight if i get an ample response), im thinking of buying the camera [$437.95], VipPro CR-125 Carrying Bag [$29.95] and a Lexar 32gb class 4 sdhc [$69]. im not sure if i can post the website here but itz abesofmaine[dot]com. i ordered my zs7 from them and had no problem using paypal (personal payment preference of mine).

is there anything else i need to buy besides the case and the sdhc card ive mentioned above? do i need these diff type of filters or lens (tele & wide angle) that the site listed as accessories? like i said, im a noob. kindly help! thanks in advance!

also, fz100 is somewhat a step-up from zs7 right? so the recording shld be the same as zs7, if not better??? and how abt them prices? fair prices?

kindly reply. i'd appreciate it a lot! help a noob out! :)

I think for some of the burst shooting or HD Viideo, Panasonic says a Class 6 card is needed, so check on that. I bought my wife the ZS7, but I prefer a camera with more options like the FZ100, and even considering the new GH2 but price may be a roadblock.

I bought the Panny Class 10 card for the same price, but only 8GB. They had a 16GB card yet in Class 10, but I didn't jump on that because the price was $150 range I think. I would at least get the Class 6 so you won't have any issues, especially on HD Video recording.

hmmm ok ill read abt it then.

i had a class 6 on my zs7 dat i lost. i didnt have any problem with avchd or stills. does it really make a difference?

maybe for my next shopping around. right now. i just need something to store a week worth of photos and some vids. :)

im going to bite the bullet in the next hour or so. fz100 camera, 32gb class 6 sdhc, and a carrying bag thru overnight shipping = almost $600. ouch! but i gotta have one soon. gotta treasure those mini trips/vacations yknow :p

Like you, I also need a camera for a trip, and opted for the FZ100 as well.. I bought one yesterday, and can't wait to get home tonight to use it!

Did you find anything out about the battery? I couldn't find it anywhere, and that's a huge deal for me.. I used to take a close to 1k pictures every day in my trips, and that was in a compact camera.. Imagine how many I'll take with this one!

I just got my class 10 card because class 6 could shoot only 3 or 4 out of 11 burst frames. You need at least a 6 for video. I got the 8GB because it was the same price as the class 6. Yeah, 16GB is way too expensive....

ok i just placed my order. ships overnight :p
i went with $73 16gb sdhc class 10 and a $30 carrying bag.
hope everything goes well and i get to play with it tomorrow before my trip.

appreciate all the replies! :)

Hey, you're gonna love it more and more as you grow into it. I've had mine for about a month now and here's what I like about it so far:
  • the free-angle monitor - it's great for high/low/and self-portraits
  • the free-angle monitor - you can actually see it even when the sun shines directly on it!
  • the many color modes, I esp. like the 'silhouette' mode
  • 'Happy' mode - goofy name, but nice colors
  • 'motion deblur' really works (see my pics in Picasa album, "More FZ100 pics". The shot of the sailboat was taken while I was speeding across a choppy lake)
  • high speed movies are fun
  • 'dynamic BW' is rich (not to be confused with 'high dynamic BW')
  • viewfinder is amazingly clear
  • excellent HD movie quality
  • great, useful macro
Enjoy the new cam. Anticipating the delivery is half the fun! I salivate every time I hear the sound of a UPS truck!

Thanks. You can take pics just as good - and better. The secret is to get out there and take shots every day as much as possible. Make it your passion. And try to look at your subjects in a way others don't. You will succeed.
