I have noticed that a lot of people like PhotoShop for their photo editing.

I'm not a professional and am not sure I am ready to spend as much money for an editing program and I did my camera.

Any suggestions on less expensive editing programs would be appreciated.

Paint Shop Pro is definitely a very capable package, available at a fraction of the cost of PhotoShop. It supports layers, and most image manipulation feature you could want. Additionally, there are a LOT of websites dedicated to PSP, so it is very easy to find tutorials, etc.

Have a look at the website: http://www.jasc.com

I use PhotoImpact from http://www.ulead.com . It is a good image editor, and the new versions have a feature that will correct the barrel distortion of the 602 at wide angle. It's a different feel from photoshop, but for most purposes, just as good. About USD80.

I generally use Photoshop but have also used Photo Shop Elements which is also very good. Elements runs about $100 US.

Adobe allows you download a 30 day free trial of Photoshop Elements, their lesser program than Photoshop. I downloaded it yesterday and I am amazed how easy it is to make bad pics good pics. I would think with this program you could easily go through every pic you take.

Have not tried Paintshop Pro. Is there a trial of it anywhere? Would be nice to try both before buying.

Photoshop certainly is "THE" photoediting software. It can do anything! But at about 2000 euros (photoshop 7)it's REALLY expensive!

If I was you, I'd go for Paintshop pro 7! That's a very good program, absolutely compareable with Photoshop. It's much cheaper and only lacks a few of the things photoshop can do. Actually, paintshop is BETTER than photoshop in some areas. For example creating text and enhancing it is much easier and nicer in paintshop. On the other hand, photoshop can do a lot more complex things than paintshop..

If Photoshop had a number of 10, painthsop would be 7... Hope you understand what I mean! Paintshop is really great! Go for it man!

Yup, you can. Download it from here:

I think it's really good value for the money.

I guess there many opinions--so, I'll add mine: I have found the Olympus Camedia 2.5 to be the easiest to use for modest modifications, red eye removal, instant fix, and such. I have Photoshop, but for me it's just too much fiddling around. The reason I use a digital camera is to get pictures quickly that require littlel if any manipulation.

Olympus has a newer version called 4.0, but I find the previous 2.5 edition the quickest to use.

Please note, the Olympus programs will NOT Recognize the movies presently produced by the s602. To view those, use the FinePix viewer or Microsoft multimedia player.

I have become a Photoshop user of late. But before I did, I got started with this fine shareware image editing program: http://www.mediachance.com/pbrush/index.html Why not try it for free - it has the DCE program that has been talked up in this forum in recent weeks as well as the ability to use Photoshop plug ins and barrel distortion correction and top shelf resize / resample functions. If you keep it, it costs only $38 US and is well worth it. HTH.

You could always try - GIMP

"The GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software suitable for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. This site contains information about downloading, installing, using, and enhancing GIMP. This site also serves as a distribution point for the latest releases, patches, plugins, and scripts. We also try to provide as much information about the GIMP community and related projects as possible."

It is not very intuative - apparently not very stable (although personally No trouble as yet) but it is FREE!

PS I use Photoshop 5.5 supplied as a deal with a scanner
