Did a Canon 60D just puke all over your screen also?

Because on my computer Dpreview.com just became one big animated advert for the Canon 60D, and it's making my eyes ache! What the hell is going on with this much beloved (and traditionally unbiased) website?

I really do have to start trying to be a bit nicer to people on here.

Lets face it
having to advertise your camera all over a photography review website
it's actually good news it simply means they know they are on the ropes

heck take look at the canon forum and canon can see that even the canon shooters
were not at all impressed with the 60D and the D7000 just put the final
nail in the coffin for new buyers that aren't already invested in the system

but the bigger issue is it is now quite obvious that dpreview caved into the almighty dollar over the perception of unbiased opinions

if it continues it will throw doubt on any upcoming canon reviews for complete unbiased reviews

lets face reality the one who controls the money controls a lot of other things as well

It was a nikon camera up there?

Darkness is the monster and your shutter is your sword, aperture your shield and iso your armor. Strike fast with your sword and defend well with your shield and hope your armor holds up.

I'd like to imagine so. I'd be embarrassed and puzzled as to why Nikon would feel the need to shove something down my throat. If the product is stellar, I'll buy it, the color red and animated adverts are not the way to go, for me at least anyway.

Unless there's a Nikon background display coming online in the next few days ... then I don't know what to say.

Nikon doesn't need to convince informed camera users to buy it's new camera

Especially if it was a nasty garish colour like this! Putrid, in your face sceptic advertising in a place that we (apparently very mistakenly) had become very comfortable! I use canon, A canon S90 and a Canon T70 with assorted lenses. BUT THIS IS DISGUSTING!
This is not a case of Nikon VS Canon it's a a case of taste vs tack!

In fact I'm starting to feel ashamed that I shoot canon, and I HOPE that Nikon doesn't pull crap like this because I can't afford to change systems!

I don't really care what brand it is because I always disregard pop-up ads and intrusive stuff like that. All it does is make me run away from whatever is advertised there should my eye catch it. But both colour and animation are quite distracting. I hope that this is just a "Photokina special" and that with enough negative feedback we can go back to the previous layout (which also had animated ads, but less disruptive).

Hah I didn't realize it was a 60D advert till I read this thread. I was pretending it's Christmas time and those were Christmas colors, with the D7000 and all :D

So be prepared to show your dislike to them when they do by jumping over to Canon.... or polaroid. :-)

Pay it no mind. There is always an ad of some sort of digital device up there. Why bothered now?

It's just so garish and obnoxious! Actually, I think the red colour is psychologically making me angry, and the catchphrase is so crass! It feels like one step away from 'Have it Your way' or 'I'm loving it.' I have just been using this website thinking for years that it was dependable and trustworthy and... adult. I don't mind them making money at all, the flashing advert in the top right doesn't bother me, but this just makes me feel like it's a Canon site now.

For example, whenever I get the emails from Canon (because I registered my cameras) I look at the photography suggestions, but I don't give the equipment reviews the slightest consideration because I know that it's a review by Canon. Same goes for any time a company writes their own reviews! And now, it gives the same impression to Dpreview.

But it's not about branding at all, it's more that I come to this site religiously, and suddenly it got U.G.L.Y! Difficult to look at. If it was any other site I wouldn't give it the time of day, but I can't avoid this one because Dpreview is the most indepth, and informed site I know of.
Just so uncomfortable to use.

Excellent point. Will DPR become like so many of the print magazines whose reviews of computers, especially, have long been suspect due to the millions invested in advertising by companies such as Dell or HP?

Wouldn't you say that in a way it was the equivalent of YELLING?
