A quick perusal of several forums indicates that the vast majority of posters are unhappy with some aspect or their gear. Another sizeable number seem to be more invested in participating in brand wars. Is the joy of taking photos been lost because of pixel peeping? Are people even remotely aware that most printers are not capable of rendering in even an A3 the type of so-called short comings that appear in 100% crops. In my entire life I have never gone to a gallery with a magnifying glass and inspected a photograph. Most are viewed from about at least one meter. So what is it? It doesn't seem to be about composition, or lighting, or perspective that resonates in these forums. It appears to be about comparing specs and pushing that tech envelope as far as possible.

I agree. It really seems that too many are interested in techy gear more than photography. Sad

To add to that there are also plenty of agendas regarding corporate identity. Regardless of the usefulness of the camera.

You hit it right on the nose. Today, people have cameras that take better pictures than ever, perform better than ever, with more specs and features at less money than ever. And yet...people on these forums complain more than ever in spite of all the power and capability that these cameras now offer them. I say just ignore these nuts and get on with your life. Five, ten, fifteen years from now, these people will still be complaining and arguing.

It does appear so. I have got into the habit of sharpening and reducing noise in pictures that will never be viewed at their original resolution.

But manufacturers make cameras for buyers - and most (possibly more than 99.9%) have never looked at a photography site, let alone DPReview. All my friends, and most of their kids down to the age of 4, have digital cameras, but none stick their noses in here.

I am inclined to buy cameras for the job I want them to do, so I have little need to complain about them.

It is all about the chest pounding!

For some, no matter what is true, they are always better than anyone else!

And anything they own is always better and more expensive than everyone elses stuff.

As for the gear, it seems more people buy something so they can look for problems more than good things about said gear.

Thus is a day in the life of the forums chats . . .

This is, sad to say, pretty much a gear forum. Lots of folks with more money than they know what to do with; gearheads without portfolio looking for the magic product to turn them into photographers. This does NOT apply to everyone, but most posters here spend their time whining, testing and changing camera systems,

I'd upgrade if I could, but I've learned how to work around the shortcomings of both tools in order to take some great pictures.

You are right though in that there seems to be a rather large number of whining trolls posting lately. Maybe the satisfied folks are all out USING their cameras rather than complaining about them on the Internet.

What a concept...

In sports car circles in the old days we used to call that "bench racing". People would sit around and compare models they had never driven.

Same thing seems to be happening here. The forums are being taken over by "bench racers" and fanboys and a third group that just seems to want to stir up controversy. Many of them show up on multiple forums - they just have too much time on their hands. So they kill time by maddening the rest of us.

Oh come on, lighten up posters. It is all good.

Now. Someone tell me where I can get a POCKETABLE cam that takes perfect pics in low light, excellent quality in the brightest sunlight, beyond compare quality in EVERY other lighting situation known to man, and has a SUPER ZOOM capability without any loss to any quality on any image I every capture.

Also, it MUST, and this is NOT debatable, IT MUST be capable of laying a pure 1 lb. Gold Brick every day without fail.

Anyone know where I can find such a beast for under $250.00 U.S. money or less? Thanks for any and all suggestions that come close!!!

I'm retired. So that gives me lots of free time. I do like this forum because I get some great tips from time to time, and to see whats going on with the latest cameras & techniques.

Every camera I ever owned was a great camera at the time. My first, Argus C44 with all accessories & lenses. I still have it with all the others I've bought over the years.

Yes, there are carpers & complainers. There always will be. It's the nature of man to never be satisfied.

This is a great forum to spend time on if you love photography & cameras. Today is the best ot times. Tomorrow will be even better.
Glean what is best on this forum and ignore the rest.
