Just some snaps from the National Hot Rod Association's "U.S. Nationals" held in Indianapolis, IN (shot on 09/04/10).

Hung out in the "Pits" trying to grab something interesting...a view or angle most don't see. Then was confined to the "cheap seats" in the stands and attempted to snap a few to illustrate the action.

Have always enjoyed the Nitro flames late in the evening!

As always....the bad with the good and I need to work on showing only the "good". All were captured with E30, old 14-54, old 50-200, and the 70-300. Many were captured via shooting in "S" utilizing "Auto ISO".

No fancy post-processing....all were shot as JPEG....cropped....and those without EXIF were quickly run through Neat Image just because it's on this silly computer.

I've been wanting to go, just havn't done it yet. Nice set of photos. I like the ones with the flames.

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the images and hope it either makes you want to attend or at least left you feeling like you should have been there!

If you've never been you are missing out on one of the best drag racing events in the U.S. I try to attend every year....it just doesn't always work out. As always I saw plenty of other fans with cams, but was the only person with an Olympus. Would be nice to meet another user there! (HINT)

See you there next year?

Very nice series, I love the punchy colors. My favorites are no 2 because of the nice DOF (feels like I could touch these parts) and no 12, which has wonderful reflections (original size is a must) and an excellent overall exposure.

Thanks for looking and for the comments. I took more than 800 shots on this day, and many times while in the pits I kept thinking I could have gotten "better" with the 50-200 in regards to emphasis on engine parts (as it relates to DOF). But things were happening quick, time limited, and left the 14-54 mountes....electing to crop later. I was traveling light and therefore wasn't using two cams/two lens....which I have done before to quickly compensate for all encountered.

There's plenty of "color" to shoot most of the time, given the color combinations of the cars.

On this day....only being there one day and not even a full day....I was basically just running and gunning. If you've never seen Nitro style cars run I highly suggest it! Aspects such as the sound of their engines, the odors in the pits after they assemble the engine and test fire it.....those little things that can't come through in a photograph (or I lack the ability to bring it out).

Thanks again!

"Triumph Steve"....looked at your Smug-Mug. I shouldn't have been surprised to see images of Triumphs given your "name".

Nice shots! If you own all the Triumphs and the Indian I can officially call you "The Man".

Nice Bikes....nice pictures....and thanks for taking a look/commenting!
