First to those who are courious abot Me, below (show signature) is the link to My gallery (Croatian and English) and something about My history as a photographer (amateur).

I started with digital in 2005 with E 500 double zoom kit using Raw Shooter Esential for Post procesing. Always having teroubles with blown highlights.

Upgraded to E 3 and some better lenses and acessories. Sure the quolity of files is beter then with E 500 but high light troubles was here again, although i started to use Adobe Esentials 2.

Software upgraded to CS3, CS4, and finaly to the CS5. I shoot RAW only. On top of that I added a TOPAZ 5 plugins for CS 5. No more troubles with higlights and noise ( I don't care noise anyway). The same case is with E 500 files developed with latest software.

What I have learned?

EWERY NEW CAMERA IS BETTER THAN IT'S PREDCESOR AND THE SAME GOES FOR THE SOFTWARE TOO.

I can understand why profesionals are disapointed, but can't understand the rest of you-amateurs.
Why than so many of you have so many bad words ewery time something new is out.
I have spasm in My stomach yust reading the headlines, let alone whole threads.
Look at some recent E 3 pics below with exif intact.
What make you think E 5 will not be even better.
Why do you care about competitors in camera make.

Who force you to use Olympus. If you made a mistake choosing Olympus and don't like the results you get, swallow the mistake (yours) and go elswere and don't make the rest of us sick.
Rant finished.

Lizards and blue bird with crown was shoot through the glas.

Really enjoyed the pictures and have always enjoyed sharing and growing together on this journey! We are some of the luckiest people to have been born during this time and have the time, talent and treasure to explore some of the riches.

Very well said, mate.

And your pictures speak to your point also.

Well done, and thank you.

BTW, I have learned much the same "lesson", albeit that my piccies aren't as good as yours.

You are so right. I feel fortunate to have what I have and simply try to make the most of it. I will say, though, that when I started out with the digital slr thing, I found some of bickering and arguments on this forum to be interesting. I learned a little of this and a bit of that, and eventually they gave me an idea of what to focus on - that thing in front of the lens that I'd like to capture!

By the way, for unknown reasons, I can't see your pictures in this post :(. Based on what others have said, I'd really like to! Any suggestions?

Up to now I haven't said anything about the new E5 but your post has prompted me. Like you I started with the E500 with kit lenses but unlike you I'm still using them not having 'upgraded' (how I hate that word). For SW I use LR2 & CS3.

Now, should I decide to get a new camera, as far as Olympus is concerned, it's either the E5 or mFT, as far as I can see. If I opt for the E5, I need a better lens, the 12-60 say. So I guess I'd be looking at 2500 euros here. Now that's a lot of cash to stay within the E-system which has, at least, an uncertain future. Unfortunately Olympus mFT doesn't have the camera body I would like - at least where I could use the hotshoe with a viewfinder. Perhaps this will change shortly....

Now,competition, hust to give you an idea what the choices are here;

Olympus E3 body (E5 price is not yet out) 1232 euros
Canon 7D 1380 euros
Canon 60D 1068 euros
Nikon D7000 1167 euros

And full frame,
Canon 5DII + 24-105 2702 euros
Nikon D700 + 24-120mm 2541 euros

So you see the quandary, it doesn't really have anything to do with how good the camera is, for me at least.

Frank

Great shots. Good points.

It is Ok what you say. What I'm saying is, I don't care about other brands ( i like Nikon) because I can't aford anything else. But I'm not crying here making everybody else miserable. I am happy to have what I own right now and even more happy because new camera-s is and will be much better than My. You may have diferent needs or wishes. Keep them for yourself and enjoy your equipment in meantime.

Nice to here from you in this forum. Thanks again for going to Mirogoj with when I was in Zagreb. I haven't had the chance to try the software you recommended but hopefully I will soon.

As for the E-5, I can't understand the pricing. This is my only issue otherwise I would have ordered it already.

The Yen is the strongest it has been in 15 years and, since the E-5 is made in China, I can't understand why they are asking 198,000 yen (about 12,900 Croatian Kuna, or 1,770 Euro).

Also, I am not sure about Olympus's long term support so I am trying to decide whether to sell all my Four Thirds equipment (except for my E-PL1) and but a Canon 5D Mark II (it's the same price as the E-5 in Japan) or to buy the E-5 right now (I know a shop that has it on pre-order for 179,000 yen), collect some free gifts from Olympus Japan( a choice of either an HLD-4 grip and Battery, a 25,000 yen gift certificate to the Mont Bell outdoor clothing store, or a 32GB SD card) and enjoy the E-5 plus the lenses I already own for at least 3 years, which is how long I've had the E-3.

Considering the E-5 already has lower specs than many other cameras, I don't see the point of waiting 2 years for the price to drop and then buying it.

I don't really have needs and my wishes are just that. But I do have economic realities to consider should I replace my ageing E500. If I had a lot of (expensive) lenses I think the E-5 would look better from an economic viewpoint.

Frank

Wishes are one thing.
Need is another and completlly diferent thing.

As an amateur what you really need,....ask yourself. I'm feeling guilty My self for SPENT money on My gear but I'm not regret it.

E 500 was realy enough even with kit lenses. I don't NEED gear I have. I WANTED it for 25 years and I bought it and I don't bash it like some caracters do here with their if they have one.
Ask yourself what you wish/need your present or future gear for.
The answer for that may be not simple, or it is very simple.
