Just picked up my 60D

haven't you heard? the 60D does not actually function now that the D7000 has been announced. Apparently, the specs are so much better that they became self aware and planted dead firmware in all existing 60D's. Its sad, but I read it in this forum.

all joking aside, enjoy the camera, it won't be as bad as everyone says.

Congratulations and looking forward to hearing about your experiences. What camera are you coming from or is this your first dslr?

I have been trying to decide between the 60D and the 7D as a upgrade so I, along with lots of others, are really anxious to hear about your experiences. Please let us know as soon as you have any information. (Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? ...)

I purchased this camera for work to do both staff/function pics as well as some video for our website and internal training. I wanted a decent camera for a decent price and wanted it to be more flexible on the video end and not be too heavy. This camera nails if for me. I already have a 40D, 7D and a 5DmII and if I had to slot it into that mix I would say it is about a 20D feel with a mix of 7D and 50D functionality.

Out of the box I am pretty impressed with the overall look and feel. It won't take me long to be fully familiar with all the controls. The D-Pad is actually easy to work with. I am thinking in portrait shooting the dpad might even be a tad easier to reach than the joystick button would be, especially if I add a grip.

You can hardly tell it has a plastic body. It is quite a nice package.

As soon as I get the battery back in I am going to check to see if they slipped in any MA capability.

lol, I think this 60D is going to be nice. I wonder if they will drop the price in the first 30 days? After 30 days my price protection is gone :)

Just a few more miles....I am in the double blink mode on the charger. Don't want to push it :)

Gosh, I hope it doesn't have AF problems, banding, soft RAW images or anything of the sort :-(
Let us know if it does !!!!

I'm sure the 60D is a capable camera and overall performance seems very predictable.

IMO, one unknown is whether Canon has done anything to address the low ISO pattern noise in deep shadows that afflicts their 7D and 5D2.

LOL we seem like a bunch of expectant fathers around here ;D

I'm eager to hear about the results too.

BTW it's okay to undercharge LiIon batteries, assuming that's what these are. They actually have longer life if stored below full charge, around 80% is said to be optimal. But frequent top-offs, say before they're drained at least 5% or so, is not good for them, and some intelligent chargers or battery protection circuits will prevent top-offs. In this case I agree it's best to get a full charge as I imagine it will be hard to put this camera down during the first day.

Let us know what you think ASAP.

I read a preview last night that said the camera feels very good, and that the plastic body could almost be mistaken for a metal body. I'm not bothered by the plastic body at all.

The 60D has gotten a lot of hyperbolic hate around here. But it may well be the better choice (compared to the new Nikon D7000) for some people. For macro work for example, I really do think that articulating screen is a big plus.

And the price will probably come out to be $200 cheaper on the street than the D7000. For people on a budget (like me), that buys you a lens, or part of a lens. If the 60D does everything you want, and you want an articulating screen and like the video capabilities, then the D7000 is not the automatic choice.

Here are 3 images shot in raw and processed in CS5 using no noise reduction - just a bit of exposure/sharpening(50) clarity/fill adjustments due to the overcast day.

I took some road hockey shots using center point AI servo and it focused quite well. No issues noted. The rest of the shots were all center focus point, Tv mode with auto iso.

I am impressed with these quick test shots.

And, yes, those are the Hanson Brothers.... :)

it's a pitty you put the 18-55 on it, if it's the old one without IS then thats a real shame

put some quality glass on it, pictures should be much better then

even with something like the 28-135
