D100 Is it necessary to purchase a card to take photo?

Dee,

It depends. A memory card does not come with the D100, so if you want a card you will need to purchase one.

If you are shooting connected to your computer, I don't believe a card is required. When connected to a computer, the image is downloaded to the computer and not stored on the card.

P Barnett,

You DON'T need a memory card in the camera if you shoot tethered to a computer (using Nikon Capture 3, which is available as a 30-day trial). However, the Mac version of NC3 currently doesn't work with Macintoshes and D100s. (There's apparently a timing problem with the Mac software and the USB camera interface)

This seems like a painful way to operate though. If you spend $2000 (US) on a camera, isn't it worth a couple of hudred bucks to buy a nice large memory card? They're getting quite affordable, after all. I'd recommend at least a 256 mb card. Anything else just fills up too fast (I shoot with a D1X and a 512 mb card)
