Not a word on burst speed? Using a CCD I wouldn't expect so much, but at least 3-4 fps, please becasue the SX20 was a snail, speed-wise.

No raw? I don't care about that, but others will.

No AVCHD? If they keep the anterior codec, I'm fine with it. Using AVCHD is a pain in the...

EVF size? Not resolution (poor, as it is 200k) but size. I hope they stick to 0,44"

Is the SX30 the successor to both SX20 and SX1? Or will we see a CMOS version too?

The lack of Full HD and the fact they don't mention the burst speed (thus it will probably suck) makes me think it could happen.

Any guess?

Well, I checked Canon website and this are the answers:

Just 0,6-1,3 fps. Crappy.

NO

.MOV (good)

No answer for that one.

That is the real question.

How much does it cost, where are the sample images, and when will camera be available

Wonder what the Noise will be like at base level Hmmm we will see no doubt :|
Alan.

1) Specs appear to show 0.6 to MAX 1.3 fps...VERY slow.
2) No mention in Specs of "MACRO" or how close you can focus.
3) No mention of estimated "number of shots per battery charge"
4) No mention of "RAW" file format. Doesn't appear to offer it.
5) 1-point AF ???? Sounds slow to me.

The lens is AWESOME. But that's it. I'm leaning toward the Panasonic FZ40 or FZ100

I'm waiting to see what the image quality is like. But for now I'm leaning to the Canon. I don't need speed but I do like nice IQ. Points 2-4 are a bit silly IMO, just because something isn't mentioned in the first run of specs doesn't mean it's bad news.

The lenses on this line of Canons (I have the S3is) have always had pronounced fringing, especially at the long end, or if there is even a bit of backlighting.

I'm disappointed it won't have 1080 video, as its Panasonic and Nikon superzoom competitors already do.
The lens is AWESOME.
You think so? Sounds good on paper, actually too good to be true. I have my doubts that it will work well at either end of the focal range; hope I'm wrong!

Any bets on the image quality at higher ISO numbers?

That is the point!

This CANNOT be the SX1 replacement because continuous shooting is so slow and it doesn't have Full HD video. SX1 had 4 fps and Full HD. There's no going back to speed and video resolution, so sooner o later Canon will have to do something; FZ100 offers both speed and Full HD. Of course, this is all because of CCD sensor vs CMOS sensor (which seems to offer worse IQ...).
If this is the SX1 replacement, I'll be keeping my SX1...

We're all looking for something special in our next camera. Personally, I value long zoom and the continuous shooting modes for kids' sports.

It's hard for me to believe that Canon is not offering something with better speed and Full HD.

Maybe there is another model on the way? Panasonic has two new superzooms, of course. Maybe Canon will too,...

Come on guys, you know this camera is for consumers that dont know any better. They see 24mm and 800mm and say wow, superman. If Canon wanted to be serious, they would have made the lens an F2.8-3.5 and limit the top zoom to 12X. They also would have increase the frame per sec to at least 2.5 fps. Their target customers are not you guys in dpreview forum.

One very important thing missing is the "Superfine" option that was also missing on the SX20. Oh well...i'll keep my SX20 since I installed the CDHK hack in it and now the Superfine option is available. Quite a difference in picture quality and also I can now shoot Raw.

I seriously doubt a 35x zoom lens is going to be awesome, or anywhere close. I'm sure many consumers will only see '35x' and think the same thing, but it will have distortion and fringing aplenty.

Aperture kept down to 5.8, considering the zooom increase 35x to 840mm! I think this is good. I would probably of prefered 35-1225 though! lol good for those passing whales.

.

I'm in. I pre-ordered an SX30 from Amazon.

After reading all of Canon's bragging on this lens
I'm going to be an "early adopter" for a change and
buy this camera on their hype. Sometimes they
throw their weight at a product. I'm thinking this
may be one of those times. I don't expect $5K DSLR
type imaging, but I think it may make a very good
light weight birding camera.

I'll post pics on this site when I get the camera.

good shooting, dxr
