The Nasau Mills water dam.

Pics were taken between 4PM and 5PM with semi-clear skies/direct sunlight.

Sooo... anyone have any dam questions?

Some dam critiques?

About my dam pics?

Alright... have at 'em and savage away!

IMHO, there's nothing too special about them. Most of them look like regular snapshots. Bright sunlight, for me at least is, is hard to shoot in. Lots of dark shadows and and very uninteresting light.

The only one that has potential to me is the pic title Crack of the railing overlooking the water. I like the symmetry and the water below. Maybe a slightly tighter crop and it would be a much better pic.

Personally, I like strong shadows and it adds dynamic range - a second or third layer to the information that the viewer is getting from the photo.

Overcast doesn't come across well unless you're doing B&W.

I liked the second photo (depth of field) best. I may have cropped the top tiny bit off - - I'm also not 100% sure shallow d.o.f. would have been my approach - - - but I find the composition interesting.

The pic with the names carved interests me.

Too bad the sun wasn't deeper in the sky so the colour would have been richer.

Knowledge is realizing that the street is one-way, wisdom is looking both directions anyway :)

I thought of taking off the top or cloning one side to the other - but in the end, I wanted to keep the context of the photo i.e. make sure the viewer new that it was a square timber instead of a larger section of wood.

Contextual is kind of my style... I like my photo to tell as much of the narrative as possible.
