My wife shakes Joe;s hand

Hopefully, the original poster went on that list. Or, do you seriously think he didn't have other motives when he posted it?

Every time I see Sarah Palin I want to puke. Now if someone were to post a photo of her and say his wife shook her hand, I would just shrug my shoulders and move on. If they accompanied that photo with some text proclaiming how wonderful she was, that would be another matter; I'd still like to think I would have the good sense to move on though. Since the OP didn't put any spin on Joe Biden, I don't see an issue here. OTOH, you and your fellow travelers couldn't help but to make snide remarks about Biden being unintelligent, a crook, dangerous, and possibly contagious.

Every time I see Sarah Palin I want to puke.
I'll give you one guess. Who said?

"Too bad people can't just enjoy a photograph and keep their political snipes to themselves"
Yes, but you are taking that sentence out of context. The rest of the paragraph explains why discretion is the better part of valor, how the OP didn't accompany the photo with a political commentary, and how 6 respondents to this thread engaged in a slew of rude and childish snipes directed towards Joe Biden.

Hardly a demonstration of discretion or valor, in my view.

But I'll now exercise some of each by ignoring the remainder of this thread while hoping it dies before reaching the magic 150 posts!

""Too bad people can't just enjoy a photograph and keep their political snipes to themselves" "

Enjoy this photograph??
Really? I'd like to know what about it there is to enjoy?
Composition? Color? Intellectual or emotional appeal?
Does it show a unique ability of a D300?
Someone kindly explain to me why it belongs in dpreview.

Composition?
Yes, composition, specifically missing putting his wife in the composition. That is what is called a teachable moment.

Whatever DPR standards are, I'm not so sure. I see lots here that I wouldn't bother commenting on (and that actually would include the shot of Biden) and generally I don't. OTOH, if it hadn't been for the slew of snide remarks directed against the subject of the photograph with no mention of the photograph itself, this thread would be at the bottom of the page and on its way to the second page by now.

What exactly is it that the photographer want C & C on? This guy and his wife make it a point to attend some Bidden rally or event. His wife makes it a point to get right up front. He makes it a point to take a picture of the handshake. Then, he posts a picture that has absolutely no redeeming photographic value. What other point is he trying to make but to showcase their hero under the gise of legitimate photography?

Well, he made the point that he missed putting his wife in the shot. Now I found that funny. I also found something about Biden's smile funny, it reminded me of someone portraying him in a Saturday Night Live skit. Having thus been drawn into the photo by all of that, I noticed Biden had no necktie on, and neither did the guys around him who were so obviously secret service agents -- again, that struck me as funny.

Oh my, it's as if he's committed a sin against you personally. How dare he might like someone you so obviously hate.
Then, he posts a picture that has absolutely no redeeming photographic value.
Then why reply to it?

For my part, first I ignored this thread, the title simply didn't get my attention. Ironically, as the thread kept getting replies that's what motivated me to open it. As I said above, I found the whole thing amusing. Then I read the other replies, and lets just say we don't share the same sense of humor.
What other point is he trying to make but to showcase their hero under the gise of legitimate photography?
Regardless of whether your presumption of Biden being his "hero" is true or not, why did you bother replying to a photo with "absolutely no redeeming value?" Oh right, because you had your own ax to grind.

Exactly IG, a political photo which should expect political comments.
Some posters here don't seem to see that.

No. To make the point that such photos do -not- belong on dpreview.
Simple as that. Put it up on face book where they belong.
Maybe if repeated often enough, someone will read it.

And who am I to say what photos belong here?? I'm not the only one that thinks such and and no one yet has given any photographic equipment, craft, or artistic reason why it belongs on dpreview.

So let's repeat it for the nineteenth time, political photos do not belong on dpreview.

They belong on facebook. If they do appear here, they will receive political comments. It's called reality.

Totally bogus. You and your buddies didn't write anything to that effect in your first replies, just a lot of juvenile jabs at Biden while ignoring the OP's point about neglecting to get his wife in the shot.

I showed the photo to my son tonight, and when I mentioned that the guy's wife was mad because he didn't get her in the shot, he laughed out load (literally) because that's truly funny.
And who am I to say what photos belong here??
You're absolutely no one to say that. You could spend all your time criticizing other's photographs without offering constructive criticism, and looking for fights to engage in; after all, that is the stuff that makes DPR the place it has become these days.
I'm not the only one that thinks such and and no one yet has given any photographic equipment, craft, or artistic reason why it belongs on dpreview.
I did, it was a teachable moment; of course, you were to obsessed by your contempt for Biden to see that.

Believe me I would have much rather have responded with a "Geeee what a lovely wife and by the way what lens and camera settings did you use?..GREAT SHOT!!..the colors, contrast and bokeh are right on,,you nailed the exposure..Bravo Bravo!!! That Joe's a handsome devil, and look at all those secret service agents around all dressed so casually..I bet they sure were nice fellas..lol

The subject: A photo supposedly showing a wife shaking the hand of some guy called Joe.

The photographic problem: No wife, no hands and only a happy few know this Joe.

The intellectual and emotional impact of the image: What was the question again?
