St Joseph Apache Mission church in Mescalero. You can see this building in the mountain foothills on the way to Ruidoso. It looks quite incongruous, a large stone structure peeking out of the trees. The church was built in the early 1900s and is currently being restored. My daughter has visited this church before and went inside. http://www.stjosephmission.org/history.htm

St Francis de Paula in Tularosa. Constructed in 1865. I had to twist my daughter's arm to get her to stop for this one.

Oh, these are terrific. Three bells, the Trinity, etc. I'd love to hear those bells in action. Get any interior shots here?

Poor girl, hope you didn't twist her shutter-arm. ;)

Those are nice pictures of the churches. I know what you mean about twisting arms to get them to stop. For me on vacation, it was mostly taking pictures from a moving car, but I did get them to stop some. :)

I'm glad your daughter stopped so you could photograph the 2nd church. I think I'd like to hear those bells. Good shooting.

As your two nice examples show, New Mexico is full of the most interesting churches, scattered throughout the state. And I’d like to thank you for finding the St. Francis de Paula. Your photos of it are so nice; I’ve marked it on my map and saved a place for it in my white churches gallery.

Two nice finds in a state known for its many churches. You could spend a lifetime shooting the NM churches. Nice work if you can get it. l --

Very nice. Wondering, on the second two shots, if you used a polarizer or if the sky is that dark and deep blue as a result of your metering for the white stucco?

Thanks, Zin. No interior shots. These were strictly hop out of the car and shoot what you can in 3 minutes or less.

Thanks, Digi. I did some shooting from the moving car also, but it is much nicer to be able to stop.

Thanks, Joe. I'd like to hear the bells also. It appeared to be an active church, there was a modern addition on the back and the posted schedule was extensive.

I'm glad I could find a white church you haven't shot! I'm sure there were others hidden in the small towns we drove through. I'll be posting one from Gila, but it isn't white.

Well, if John C can be an official Texas State Parks photographer, perhaps I could be an official New Mexico church photographer. Hmmmmm......... When I was in England in 1996 I offered to weed or dig ditches, or whatever, if I could stay longer and enjoy the gardens. No one took me up on that offer either.

Thanks, Buzz. No polarizer, though it probably would have been a good idea. You are right, the sky is so dark because I was metering on the white stucco.

Thanks, Sharon. I thought of the "3 of a Kind" challenge when I took the shot of the bells.

We've had drizzle in the morning for the last few days. Today the drizzle is lasting longer.
