My F300EXR debut shots (many)

I see lots of smearing of foliage in the distance. The worst example is the 8th picture (175311) in part 2. The tree in the top left of the picture is really smeared and you don't need to blow it up by much to see how bad it looks. The trees in front of the man walking also have some smearing. Looks like they have introduced the HS10 NR to the F Series. Basically any low contrast areas of grass, bushes or trees will be impacted based on what we have seen with the HS10.

When you buy, check for dead pixels on the LCD.
Normally sales people in the shops here will take several shots of white surface and dark surface for customers to look for bad pixel in CCD and LCD before warpping the camera. It is the corner softness or lens decentered problems which takes more time to test before leaving the shop.

If you want to test for any lens decentered problem, try shooting a brick wall or similar scene at different focal length, my first F200 had lens decentered problem.
Just put the lens onto a black surface and check for red spots as you move it around.
The retailer tried to sell me a canon SX series instead.
ha ha, better profit margin I guess.

I'm no expert but I thoroughly enjoyed your series of photos! You have a "knack" for getting the best out of low light photography. Thankyou for posting and best of luck with the new camera.

Cheers,

To me it's a masterpiece such a IQ with a 1/2" + 24-360mm (plus that low price..)

Maybe, we're asking too much to Fuji (in comparison to market strategies, not absolutely...) The others, have 1/2.33" + long zoom or 1/1.6" + no zoom.

We're discovering in the F300 a quality between F70 and F200 (!!!!) but inside a long range of features thus I think we cannot search for the needle in the haystack (sorry for the translation.. it's an italian saying..)

I didn't expect a IQ like F70 but if Fuji delivers a quality (as it seems..) equal or even superior to F70, I'm very happy because I have all i need in a compact (from great WA to great long zoom to good high iso to excellent IS to good video, etc..).
As Clooney says: what else?? :D
Naturally, I'm waiting for something even better by Fuji, if possible.. :D

Conan, I for one am really enjoying your photos with your new camera, and also seeing the camera's capabilities. :-) WOW - yet another terrific series. The motion shot of the guy driving the bike and glancing back is a stunner and my favorite of this series...or it may be the billboard shot. Terrific!

Thanks again for sharing your findings with your new camera.

Yes, if it delivers all those things - and don't forget fast A/F + better LCD + improved grip - then this represents the most versatile all-round compromise currently available in a small package,IMO. With so many goodies I can maybe overlook (but not understand) the stupid flash set-up, tiresome menu system and overcomplicated shooting options.

Provided it delivers.

Yes, because don't forget that fuji has worked on the 3 things which really distinguish between compacts and dslr: 1) noise performances, 2) dynamic ranges, 3) autofocus speed. They (only they) have scientifically worked on these issues in these years.
Mario

Thanks for the images. The foliage NR smearing in the 5th and 13th images are very prevalent. Will this be the norm for Fuji going forward?
Some morning shots, noon shots and night evening shots.

Perhaps the OP can confirm whether it was a windy day, yes?

Thank you, but you really shouldn't be feeding my ego.

My thoughts exactly. Thanks for clarifying. Looks like a very capable camera. I like your last batch of the night time shots. The full tele sharpness is amazing and in good light even the 100% crops are sharp.

I thought I read somewhere (manual maybe) that NR can be controlled, is this true?

Now just waiting for samples from the SD4500 for comparison. The Samsung 15X can't handle full tele that well.

A windy day may account for some of the smearing at the top of the trees, but not for the smearing of the bottom of the tree trunk in the first of 2 photos I've shown.
