Hi all,

I am really tempted to order now the G11 but something keeps we waiting for G12....Has anyone knows when will be the official announcement of G12?Is it really coming out in the next few days?

Waiting is worse than choosing the right camera.

Thank you in advance.

If the cnet leaked specs are real (and I believe they are), then I am not sure why is it even worth the wait. For 500 bucks, you have so many much better options.

I'm interested in the G12 too. I don't think there are heaps of alternatives - if you want a swinging screen and an all-round zoom range for light travel. I wish there were alternatives (i'm aware of the Samsung EX1). I don't need video, so i might get the G11 too, instead of waiting for the G12.

The G series are great cameras - I still have two - a G10 and a G11, but it would be hard to work up any enthusiasm for another... Having recently adopted M4/3, I feel more inclined to further invest in that - even though I love the physical design and control layout of the G's.

Allow me a bit of sarcasm:

Canon update strategy: Release a camera with several obvious and annoying bugs that should have been eliminated before release. A year later release a new version with some of the bugs eliminated, but with new bugs which should have been eliminated before release.

Deja Vu...

I think they were caught off guard by the LX5 video having autofocus while zooming and allowing an optical zoom.

Probably went back to adjust the firmware to make sure it is competitive. It is bad enough the LX5 has a faster lens and now a better zoom-not having zooming while filming video would probably have made it perform poorly in relation to the LX5-Canon wants to get as much as they can per camera, and people were not going to pay that much for a camera with lesser features.

I guess it depends on what you care about the most. Zoom range and swivel screen, or IQ and size and price.

Amazon still has the Sigma DP1s for sale for only 300 bucks, and that's an amazing camera. Sure, you don't get any zoom, but most of my shots are at the widest angle anyway.

Can you take a picture like this with a 1/1.7" sensor? http://www.flickr.com/photos/radu_privantu/4956972181/sizes/o/in/photostream/

I mean shoot mostly WA. However it's nice to have options, I got the E-PL1 kit for 350EUR used (couple of months old). But your shots sure look good. Both are in another league, compared to the top compacts, IMO. Probably for a couple of more years too, G12 or not ;-)

...now uncripple with in a firmware update? Hmm, not likely I would say.

I agree that having options is nice. While watching that sunset, there was a cruise ship (or ferryboat, not sure) passing right through the setting sun. At 28mm it didn't look really impressive, and I wish I had at least 150mm worth of zoom. But overall, I think it's better to have a lot of really nice quality photos than a few OK/good ones.

I am thinking of buying the SX130 once it gets cheaper, if the samples are good, to have HD video and more zoom, and carry both cameras with me.

BTW, the E-PL1 with the kit for 350 euro is a nice deal too. I just can't see how a camera like the G11-12 can compete with stuff such as the m4/3, Sigma DP series and the new Sony Nex.

there ya´go mate - all this work paid off for you ! Well, this should be the shootoff between the p7000 and the g12 now won´t it ? Like a battle between twins ! And they both shoot 720/24p. How odd ? I think Nikon definitely had a spy in the camp ! Looks nice imho .

a reliable source said the g12 will be available october.

i think they went back to the db too but not because of the lx5 but i think it was due to the p7000. i think if they can do something like that and have a hotshoe evf and dedicated hd video/button they may have a winner. rude
