Our Hall of Sages is Emptying

Actually, I disagree with Bill Pritcher. He had every right to post in this forum ... this is the "Olympus Talk" forum ... not the "UZI" forum that many over the past couple of years ... and yes I have been around here for years ... have tried to make it. It has been an ongoing problem. It comes and goes.

As for BarbaraB ... as far as I am concerned she will not be missed. She offered nothing to the forum in the way of expertise and mainly posted here for whatever "glory" her constant begging for "thumbs ups" and "points" could garner. She was hardly a "sage" and I am sure the forum will survive just fine without her. You may rest assured she will not be posting to the Canon SLR forum in the way she did here ... they will eat her alive with all that BS she pumped out. She was not run out of here ... she engineered her own demise. Typical of self serving people.

Now ... if any of you are really interested in photography and not just strung out of your camera ... try the "RETOUCHING" FORUM ... never a mention of a camera ... never an arguement ... just detailed discussions on photograpy ... you will love it. Please ... just don't bring the pettiness this forum is famous for with you ... please. Cheers ... :-)

The true dilemma is where to post your pictures without resizing
for the web. Certainly not here at dpreview because it's not fair
for people like me at home who have dialup.
There is always the option of just posting a link (add ';' after the .jpg extension, or just post the html link). That way people who are motivated can follow the link, and people who aren't don't have to download the picture. This is useful for instance since I read dpreview from 3 different computers and when I reenter the discussion, I don't need to see the picture again.

I agree. I tend to think that this is the most fun forum on all of this site. : ) I also sense some good feelings in the Fuji group from when I've visited there. Not so on SLR forums especially.

The problem for me is more about the tone and atmosphere of this
forum in comparison to others. On a normal day, this is a much
more congenial group of photographers. The C-word SLR forum is not
as much fun; it's just very serious and mostly technical. They are
helpful, however.

It is sad to see Bill leaving. Even sadder to realise that this forum is for non dslr's only. I missed that rule somewhere...........

True, there is an Oly dslr forum but I genuinely thought that was for when they wanted to talk technical on E series cameras and joined in here to talk Olympus, how wrong/naive could I be............

Bill is indeed a great photographer and his home site proves it. Others have a long way to go yet, myself included and I make some money out of my hobby.
Geez, am I pleased I stayed out of that weekend's posts.

Didn't you just write on another thread that you were leaving?

Looks like your words are not to be believed.

Later today I will again take the helm at leading a new challenge.
I think it is important that we refocus our attention as to why we
are here. As many of you know, I am from Virginia, which is now
tramatized by senseless killing. This debate all seems so petty in
light of this -- friends, life is too short, let's not loose focus.
I hope you will join me in the next challenge.

El-See, waiting for the challenge, and sorry because I had neither interest nor expertise in Pano's.

Just a little question though, how will we be able to tell if it's a genuine Oly pic?

I'm trying very hard to remember...is the G-2 the one with the cracks?

found this at "your" forum:

"Can't agree with you more .... the G2 is a poorly constructed, low quality item that suffers from many problems. The Canon marketing machine has done a wonderful job selling this to the advanced amatuer market ( knowing most will keep the thing in the closet 98% of the time, and polish it the other 2% )."

Do you want the link or do you know all about it?

This forum has been an amazing resource, on-and-off. Olympus doesn't make the best digital cameras in the world, but they make good, capable, feature-rich ones, at attractive prices. For a lot of people -- myself included -- their first real camera was an Olympus digi, and that opened the door to a whole other world of compotent, artistic photography.

So I always saw this more as a digital photography forum than an Olympus forum. People shared plenty of great info on how you do things in Photoshop, why a certain camera trick isn't working, what's the right way to get any kind of photo... I've learned a great deal here, and always tried to pass on anything useful I knew.

Unfortionately, I had to sell my Uzi to pay for EF glass. I've been posting the occasional photo ( when I get something I'm proud enough of to share ) and even making some comments that relate to digital photography in general ( here's a camera that can do clean long exposures ... let's hope this feature finds it's way into all compact digicams in the near future ), but it's become pretty clear this forum has a much narrower purpose than what I had thought.

So, thanks for everything I've learned here!

If anybody is interested in my misadventures, you're all cordially invited to check out my site ... still a work in progress. I'm still planning to bring back some photos this year from the Lower Cascades and Mt Lassen ... check the galleries from time to time, and ( hopefully ) you'll see some improvement. And feel free to say hi!

i am the newbie here, and maybe it is none of my business, but it seems like bill is a big boy & can make his own decisions.

do i think he is right or wrong? it doesnt matter. i do think if posting an slr pic, it would be nice to label it so we ametuers dont feel stupid, but that too is up to the poster.

i agree with whomever posted that the idea behind this forum should be the sharing of knowledge, and the friendships that are made by common interests. and having a place to show off what you are proud of.

bill do what you feel is right for you, but dont do it 'cause of how someone else feels about it.

as always, JMHO.

There will be a public flogging of the subject known as "skip" at noon tomorrow for any and all who are interested...that is all...carry on

Seems to me there are almost as many ideas about what this forum's about as there are people using it. Don't see why you think Olyboy's view or anyone else's is superior to yours. If you like it here, stay; if not ... Myself, I say the more the merrier. Good luck, in any case.
