If FT was to end, where would you go?

if 4/3 were to end, I'd probably go Canon having tried a couple of their cameras and being pleased with them. Of course I'd rather 4/3 stay, but I just can't get into the micro 4/3rds stuff at all; it just still feels like a toy to me and I never understood the "smaller and smaller" game. Nowadays they make it sound like I can't even go up a flight of stairs, walk one block, or even put my bag in a car (nevermind going on a plane) if I had a "regular sized" camera/DSLR.

Just silly.
:P

hmm, good point..

I'd still keep my E-3, 50-200 for terrible weather shooting, but that's the side-along equivalent for me right now.

Equipment in plan

I would probably pick up a Nikon FX system. I've handled the D700 and I love its ergonomics as much as I love Olympus 4/3 ergonomics.

I have no interest in anyone else's crop sensor systems. I don't find Pentax to be any healthier than Olympus, I resent Canon APS-C ergonomics, I am not interested in Sony/Minolta's silly hotshoe, and I'm not really interested in Nikon DX either.

My next crop sensored camera will probably be Olympus/Panasonic micro4/3, though I have mixed feelings on that too. I handled the E-PL1 in the local Best Buy the other day and I didn't find it to be all that I hoped it to be (awkward to use on P/A/S/M, bigger than you'd think) though some of my perception may have been colored by the immense security device they had bolted to the camera. I did like its LCD display a lot, wasn't so impressed with the 14-42's rotating front element or the 1/2000 max shutter speed.

As it is right now, I'm strongly considering picking up a used Canon 5D, but no EF lenses. I'd mainly use my four excellent OM Zuiko lenses with it.

Nikon based "FF" system or Pentax for a prime based system, once my Oly kit no longer worked so it may all have changed by then and I'll be buying a 3D holographic, weightless body and F0.1 lenses ;)

Obviously, we all hope that FT will continue, but if development does end; which other system do you think you'll end up with?

I have been looking around at Sony, Canon and Nikon, and am completely overwhelmed by the quantity of lenses. I have no idea where to start? I sure hope FT is here to stay for a while.

i'm a dual system user anyway, plus i still shoot film quite often, so if Olympus decide to follow the path of the great british car industry, i'd be sad but it really wouldn't affect me.

I take it you never drove an Austin Maxi/Allegro etc etc ;)
Mandolin, haha, nope sorry! That, my friend, is a Banjo :)?

I had an Austin Maxi for a short time, an experience I will never have to repeat thankfully!

I'd keep using FT till it dropped and than switch over 100% to Sony seeing as I have the a900 and several Sony lenses...

I would hang on to my gear until they spoil, but ultimately when the time comes I think I'll go to Pentax.

If they could improve on the K-7's success, I'm sure Pentax will be heading in the right direction on pro. DSLRs.

Never stop learning.

I have a good camera, a suitable backup camera, nice range of lenses for my use.

It would be silly to change until they stopped working and replacements couldnt be brought. Or a suitable way of using the lenses didnt exist.

So in short, I would stay with olympus. µFT is suitable as a replacement if the cameras stop working, giving me plenty of time to upgrade to newer lenses. Especially considering that most olympus lenses will at least attempt to focus on the olympus µFT cameras. (correct me if im wrong)

I haven't bought a new body or lens in over two years.

By the time my gear wears out and replacements are unavailable the landscape will be totally different than it is today, so there's no point in speculating where that might be.

Well... lets see...

I hate CANON's pictures, so not Canon definitely...
I had a Pentax, did not liked it, so not Pentax...
I like Nikon pictures, but I'll miss in-body IS too much...

I like how SONY develops it's system, now with A55/33 announcement I can be sure that Alpha-mount will live on, and soon A700 successor should be announced, so I'll be looking in it's direction perhaps.

Actually all the lenses I have tried focus very accurately, just not very fast.

Shooting with a friend who has a 40D and 5Dll, I've often been surprised just how close our photos look (with my 620 and 420 and high grade lenses). Colors, I mean. So I suppose something like the 7D is tempting, but something like the new Sony 55 is also tempting for different reasons, provided I can find lenses I like for it. The image samples to me look a little mushy in the details at %100, but that can be a lens thing.

However, I suspect I'll be with Oly for a couple more years even if September 14 comes and they say, sorry folks, show's over, go home (which I don't expect). Might even pick up a used E3 to play with until things break down.
