FZ45 - first shots

Linda,

Thanks for posting your FZ40/45 photos. There hasn't been much said about the camera but now that the FZ100 is taking a beating I think more people are looking at the FZ40/45.

Your photos are great and inspiring me to take a close look at the FZ40/45....I believe it should be a fine camera.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for adding your thoughts to the thread. I've viewed your FZ45 photos, which look great... except for the red flowers (geraniums?) which appear to be out of focus. I'm struggling a bit with macro in that I'm not getting the detail I got with the FZ18.

The mode dial is a little stiff, as is the jog wheel.

Please do keep us up to date with your progress with the camera.

Have fun!

Linda

Hi Linda:

I love your photos and the way you choose your subjects. I also love the kind and objective way you present your ideas: very simple words, clear to understand and without a trace of arrogance. Because of all of that, I value very much your opinion.
Great to hear from you Joao! Hope all is well with you.

Thank you for your very kind words, they are very much appreciated.

Best wishes,
Linda

Yes, I think there are. I posted my photos mainly to help those who are interested in the camera. I find it strange that there are so few samples available.

I do hope you're right Randy!

Thanks Linda,

Yes I would agree the Red flowers, I was struggling a bit to get it focused and I was trying to use manual focus as well. Do you prefer to use manual focus or use the macro mode with automatic. Hopefully the jog wheel will get better over time.
Cheers - Mike

Mike, I've never used manual focus on any camera. I always use the macro mode for flowers, and more often than not I use macro at full zoom. I got excellent results from the FZ18 that way. Here's an example:

I'm afraid I'm not getting such fine detail from the FZ45.

I think you are getting as good or better results as a am getting from the FZ35/38. I don't think you will miss having skipped that step. The FZ100 is another matter. From what I have seen I don't like that at all.

Cheers.

If you remember Bill, I very nearly bought the FZ38 last year. In fact, I ordered it then sent it back unopened as I decided it wasn't enough of an upgrade. It was only when the price dropped recently that I went ahead... then took the offered FZ45 instead.

After using it over the Bank Holiday weekend, I'm pleased to be able to say that it can capture detail quite well. I'll soon be posting a couple of bird of prey shots that I'm happy with.

I don't like what I've seen from the FZ100 either!

Hello,

Thanks for posting the photos and giving us a few samples on what the FZ45 can do.I own an FZ35 and have been impressed with the clarity and the sharpness of the photos that you have taken. I personally prefer the FZ35s P mode like you do but sometimes i find that it can result in slightly blurry or out of focus shots if the light is not great.
Ur snaps are great though.Keep posting.
