Ran down to the Florida Keys for a long weekend. I live in Florida and havent been to the Keys in about 10-15 years probably. Pretty sad. I forgot how amazing it truly is. All within a 3-4 hour drive from my house.

Camped at Long Key State Park right on the water which was great. Plenty of snorkeling right off the beach. Was able to see conch, hermits, plenty of schools of fish, and even two puffer fish. Rented some Kayaks and paddled around the mangroves. Another day we took a boat out of Bahia Honda to Looe Key for some snorkeling and some tons of reefs, fish, and two sharks.

Just a few snap shots when I wasnt in the water, which was 90% of the time cause it was insanely hot. It was like camping in a sauna.

C&C Welcomed. All taken with the KM 7d and Tokina 11-16mm or Tamron 90mm. The first few from Bahia Honda were from my wading out in the water with the Tokina and a Polorizer.

That seems a really good way to spend time :)

What was the temperature of the water ?

All the best, Michel

That was a really nice set. The wide angle really gets it all.

The white stuff on the beach is salt I guess. No oil spill down there?

Justin,

Great first shot - like right out of a travel mag - very inviting, nice composition, etc.

I grew up in Miami but haven't lived there for years. I miss my annual treks in August down to the Keys to snorkel and catch Florida lobster (6 was the limit per day in the old days and you carried a gauge for measuring - no babies allowed). The water in your images looks VERY clear compared to what I expected to see - I thought pollution over time wold have created a problem - apparently not.

The water temp was very warm. When we went out to the reef they said it was around 86. I can imagine in the shallows it was a little hotter.

Glad you enjoyed.

I hadnt been to the Keys since I was a little kid, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the water. I wish I would of got my lobster license prior to going. We say a ton. However, I would say majority of them looked pretty tiny.

I really like what I have seen with that Tokina lens!!!
