S900 or S9000?

everything I've read says Canon inks are the best, as to print
quality and that third party inks are a trade off in final printer
output.
That has not been my experience at all. I am super critical of my
prints & I find the MIS ink looks great.
I spent a great deal of time on the printer forum and based my comment on the many comments from many persons that use third party ink. I also spoke to several sellers of the inks and found out that indeed there's patent restriction they're not able to overcome.

When the prints were placed next to each other, third party inks Vs Canon inks, the prints made with Canon inks were preferred, even on profiled printers. This again is based upon many forum poster comments

Thanks for your thoughts.

I like the idea of individual ink cartridges but not at the expense
of image quality. Is the often mentioned micro banding a real issue
with the S9000?
The only time there's a micro banding issue is when the parameters are not properly set up or there's a print head issue.

You might want to check over at the printer forum as there's an excellent group of people over there that are quite up on these issues on a daily basis.

Hope this helps.

Is Epson giving you a quantity discount?

From their website, a box of 50 sheets of 13x19 sheets is $115. And you are buying 20 boxes!!

From Buy.com, this same paper is $80.23. Still a lot of money.
Look up S041407.
Does
the output using MIS inks on the 1280 look as good or close to the
epson inks?
It looks the same as Epson ink except in one particular situation,
it is not compatible with KonicaQP paper & gives a funky glazing
effect on that paper. It looks great on Epson Premium Glossy
Paper, it also looks great on Canon PP Pro. My favorite paper of
all however is Epson Premium Luster Photo Paper, I have been
ordering it 1000 sheets at a time from Epson because I have never
seen it in a store.
If you are refilling your Canon > carts and using a CIS
on the Epson, Is there any > advantage in the Canon having > individual
carts?
The difference is, that Epson cartridges are a royal PITA to fill,
the Canon cartridges are simple to fill. I considered a cfs system
for the 9000 also, but since I use the Epson most of the time I
didn't bother. If all I used was the 9000, I would get the cfs for
it also as it goes through a ton of ink.

Here is my experience with the "Ink Station" bought from Micro Center for $15 to refill my HP 940C printer.

Here is what happen:

I refill a cattrige (the 78) until it's full and heavy.

In the first hour, the ink keeps leaking out of the nozzle. The leaking is not much, only the blue color is leaking. I pulled out the cattrige and hang it in the way that the ink does not leak.

After that, ink is not leaking any more. I got about 5 prints. The colors look terrible. The color seems dark & black. The other way to say it is that the picture is not bright!. It has some sort of gray tone in it.

After 5 A4 prints, the color turns to purple tone (just like when you ran out of some kind of ink). I guessed I ran out of blue. I took out the cattrige, it's still very heavy.

I stopped printing. The next day, I tried again. This time, the picture is only in BLUE-WHITE, which fascinated me a bit. I could not make the printer prints in colors after all kind of attempt to clean print heads.

The next day, when I print again, this time, the pictures are in YELLOW-WHITE.

I gave up and never knew what happens to the red ink. I know the cattrige still has full of ink in all three colors

I wonder if this kind problem happens to someone as well?

Sounds like maybe either there was a fault with the cartridge or you overfilled it, either could lead to the inks mixing, which is what this sounds like. I've had that with a couple of older Canon cartridges. The other, less likely, possibility is that you inadvertantly put the wrong ink in one of the fill-holes.

The good news is that this problem (whichever cause) is not possible with the S900/9000 - all the ink carts are seperate items. The only thing to be careful about is to not mix up the photo and regular cyans and magentas - in lowish light they look very similar in colour.

You'll have the option of printing 13x19, which is really worth it. I just started printing large sizes with my favorite shots. I would definately regret not having this option.
Try the Epson Premium Luster sometime. Beautiful results with this paper.

I don't know if I have a fault cartridge or not. I cannot understand how overfilling could kill a cartridge. I was thinking that I put the wrong color into wrong holes, but I was verifying it with the kit's manual, and the color of the picture looks ok, almost the same color with the digital copy. From all this, probably the mix between two types of inks caused my problem. How do I get rid of the old ink before refilling with the new ink?

Dachshund1, what paper setting do you use for Premium Luster? I have been using Photo Paper Pro exclusively, how does Epson Premium Luster compare? Any problems with color matching?

I have a dachshund... do you? :-)

I have been using S800 for long time - even I didn't "need" A3 prints, I was thinking about. Now I bought S9000 for my office - makes perfect A3 prints from my D30.

You can produce A4 prints on S9000, but not A3 on S900. And with S9000 you will "need" A3 and you will like them.

I'm thinking about the choice between these 2 printers
any sugesstion please?

How is the 900/9000 at printing text? I don't print a lot of text, but I do print out checks and tax returns, etc. Will I need to keep my HP970 too or can I just used either the 900 or 9000? Thanks...

I use the S900 for all my printing - documents, checks, everything. The print quality is excellent and it doesn't eat up ink. Draft mode is very nice too, by the way.

I printed on S9000 bigger amount of A4 text pages from Word. It's priti slow, really "a few" pages pro minute. And what important is, even we printed only bw text without logo, we found printer consumpted color ink too inclusive both photo - same amount from all color inks. I had no time till now check, if in some settings I can command it to spend black ink only.

But yesterday I printed first A3 borderless photo - autumn colored trees with blue sky taken with polarized filter - wonderfull!!!

I'm work for Canon, and I can assure you that 3rd party inks are inferior to original ones. Either in color - less pigment particles, or in viscosity - more waterish or too sirupish.

The result with using 3rd party inks always results in quicker wear & tear of your printerhead, and trust me, a printerhead is expansive ..! Besides that, canon allready has the cheapest ink of all "real" brands (originals) ...so dont try to save costs there, your printer hardware will be suffering from it, and I can assure you that canon inks have other advantages - 25 year color purity on canon photopaper pro for example, something you will NOT get with any other brand of ink - you should he happy the colors are correct for actually just a few years before they start to wear & tear.

I know that's the official company line, but I don't believe a word of it. Of course Canon will say that considering the profit margin in ink sales.

I haven't had that problem at all. Even if I don't check greyscale, it doesn't seem to be using color inks for b/w doc files.

The "gas tanks" stay at the same level until the sensors read that they're low. I checked with Canon and they said that's normal although I would have sworn it wasn't that way to start. Anyway, I'm interested for my own use how you knew it was consuming from all the colors with a text only document in black and white.

Thanks.

Check over at the printer forum.

It's a mixed bag but there are two consistant points that I've read. The first point is there there is reason to believe that Canon's print heads don't like third party inks. The second consistant point is when prints are laid side by side, the Canon inks make for the preferable prints.

From there, I've read a lot of people have had color problems and even with profiling the printer and monitor to the paper, there's still undersirable color shifts.

Me, I'm sticking with the very expensive Canon inks.

Pigment particles?
I thought the S900/9000 inks were dyes, not pigmented inks?
