Challenge 17 - Motion - Rules & Notes

On saturday evening pbase was down for a while. Now that it is back
up and running, seems as though some of the high res. images have
gone missing. I do not know if they are there and just need to be
put back up on the server or if they have been zapped. I guess
everyone should check their own photos and make sure they are as
you left them. Mark

Challenge #17 is "Motion" -- not stop action but real, live, moving
motion -- make your blurs mean something.

The Motion Challenge is open now and runs for two weeks. There is a
good chance I've not put the galleries up properly since this is my
first time. Experts will check them and we'll fix them up and post
an exact deadline in the next day or so.

You can upload images at
http://www.pbase.com/ctfchallenge/challenge_17_motion

The Eligible Gallery is for images taken with a Canon digital
camera during the Challenge period.

The Exhibition Gallery is for images taken with any camera at any
time (ransack your existing galleries).

You may post up to 3 photos in each gallery.

There are two ways to upload your entries...

1. If you already have the username and password (it's the same as
last time), simply upload your photo.

2. If you're new to the challenge, either email [email protected]
for the password, or send your photo to the same address and I'll
upload it for you.

-- Please allow 24 hours for uploading in order to meet the
deadline --

Preparing images...

Size -- Photos should be no more than 800 pixels on the longest
side and no larger than 150K.

Each picture should have this following information...
Your Name
Picture Title
Camera Used
Date of Picture (for Eligible Gallery only)

Optional information that's always appreciated is...
Description and Comments
Technical Tips
Post-Processing Details

Note: Pictures too large or missing any of the required information
are not eligible.

Please do not send or upload off-topic entries. The moderator and
uploaders have the final decision on eligibility.

Post-Processing -- Do whatever you like to your photo and the
voters will decide if it's too much.

No matter what camera you own, motion is often a factor in our
photos -- this is a chance to take advantage of it.

So set your camera to ISO50, turn down the lights, leave that
tripod in the closet, and make motion an artistic element in your
next photograph.

Good luck -- I look forward to the entries and to any tips our
photographers would like to share.

Cheers,

Don

Does this address work, or did I somehow manage to copy-and-paste
it wrong?
It works.
OK, so maybe the reply got lost in some way. That happens.
You can copy it to me also at [email protected]
Yup. Thanks. This is probably too late for this one, but maybe I can participate in another one later.

Hi,

Sorry you've had problems. I've had my [email protected] address for years and have not had any trouble.

This was the first challenge I put up myself -- one of the privileges of winning :-) -- and I probably should have included more people's names. I didn't simply because so many people have the password and I figured I could upload the few emailed entries myself.

This has proven correct in that I received very few email submissions. In the future, however, it might be good to have at least three email addresses for people to write to.

Again, sorry for your difficulty. I hope you can participate in the future.

Cheers,

Don

...I left it too late anyway (going away for a few days tomorrow, and I still haven't got my work finished)...

Hi Don,

This challenge was a lot of fun for me as it is exactly the opposite of what I usually try to achieve in my work. Occasionally I do go for the blurs and it was a real pleasure exploring an old and forgotten skill.

Thank you for coming up with this great idea.

Sincerely,

Morris

Okay,

I've been puzzled by this for several challenges. Why enter three very similar pictures?

Mike Savad took some pictures of marbles for the motion challenge. It's a great idea and he's got some good pictures. Knowing Mike from past posts and challenges, we're seeing the best three of thirty to fifty images.

When it comes time to vote the fact that his images are so similar will dilute the votes for them. Potentially he could go from winning the challenge to not winning because his images took votes away from each other.

It seems to me that the best plan is to decide which of the three images is the best and enter only that one. (Tough to do!). I'm not suggesting entering only one image in the challenge. Just enter three significantly different images.

Now, I'm picking on Mike here to bring up the point (My apologies, Mike, for using you as the example). I've seen several challengers do the same.

Why enter three similar pictures?

Hi Morris,

You're welcome :-)

I guess all challenges get off to a bit of a slow start but this one turned out very well. One thing that impressed me was that the Eligible entries are better than the Exhibition entries, where people can ransack their old galleries.

Not only were people interested enough to go out and shoot but they came up with some lovely photos that will provide inspiration for my own photography in the future.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I certainly did.

Cheers,

Don

There are 2 photos titled “PinWheel” & “Pinweel”

Both have the same ID of 1442 when you look at the tailed votes with the same comments and count, but have different photos when you click the pictures.

The same happened in the last Challenge with two pictures named "The Fly". In total they received 3 votes, but you can't tell which votes were for which picture.

I didn't give to much importance to it, since I thought it was very difficult to that to happen again (2 pictures with the very same name in the gallery), but I guess I was wrong...
(there is a typo in your post, both pictures are named Pinwheel, with an "h").

I guess we will have to be carfeul to don't name pictures the same.
