Folks..it just doesn't happen (to me anyway)..you?

Their surprise at the heft of that combo is always pleasing, that and them disicovering an f/2 zoom in their hands.

" You mean f/2.8 don't you "?

"No, f/2."

" Well I'll be dipped in sh*t said one guy, his face at the news of an f/2 zoom still full of surprise.
" F2; damn! " he continued, cuddling my gear like it wa a newborn.

"We have 3 f/2 lens', two of them zooms".

"Huunh" he said... "and an f/2.8 90-250mm (180-500efl) superzoom " adds me, just to watch their jaws drop to the floor.
That's nothing. Canon used to make an f/1.0 zoom

You can always crank more megapixel out of a lense which should not be confused with resolution. The Canon G10/G11 story is telling in this respect.
Not sure what you mean here. This is the DPR resolution test of the G11, which also includes the G10:

It seems to me that the G11 Edit: G10 resolves more, by about the ratio of pixel spacings.

regardless of the right royal farce this thread has become,
In what sense a farce?
it's become Monty Pythonesque in stature, at least they managed to do it with dignity
Is this the forum for an argument?

What's the frame size? 5.79x4.01 mm or 4.4x3.3 mm? We need to know so we can state the parameters in G11 terms.
It's Super 8 so 5.79x4.01, or 7.04 diagonal, or 6.1x in new money. So on a G11, it becomes equivalent to a f/1.3 - still a pretty respectable zoom.

But that's nothing, if I get a saw, hack it off the camera, turn up an adaptor and put it on the M9, then put it on the G11, it becomes an f/0.212. Much better.

I can think of no faster way to get dissed in a glamor/fashion/editorial/fetish discussion than to say you use Oly. Apparently, Zuiko lenses are completely incapable of shooting pictures of pretty girls. I have seen discussions of glamor techniques in which the Canon/Nikon types went on endlessly about which and what, and ignored anyone who talked Olympus as if they had farted (pardon the crude analogy).

This, of course is completely ridiculous. Rolando Gomez, who has shot for Playboy, Maxim, and Vogue, and founded Garage Glamour, shoots Olympus almost exclusively. The glamour types who dis Olympus are all middle shelf photographers who think the camera makes the shot. Or as Stefano Brunesci says, a $1500 professional-grade camera can take pictures just as badly as a $150 point-n-shoot if there is an idiot operating the shutter.

Besides, if the Nikon or Canon freak you are talking to knows anything about photography, mentioning Zuiko lenses should shut him or her up quite nicely. There is not a Canon/Nikon/Pentax lens around that will even come close to the clarity and quality of a Zuiko. Bank on it.
