Nikon Software on a new MBP

The MBP 13" is running OS X 10.6.4. When I try to open View NX 5.1.2 I get the message "View NX quit unexpectedly. I can open NX2 2.2.4, but when I try to open a picture file, I get the same message.

Nikon's Knowledgebase says these programs should both run under 10,6,4. I emailed them about this problem two days ago but have no reply (except for the auto 'a reply within 24 hours').
This is a bit of a show-stopper for me, so any advice is appreciated.

or said another way: ~ Library/Preferences/com.nikon...

There are a number of them trash the ones belonging to the apps causing problems. Be sure the apps are not running when you do this.

Next open the Disk Utility app in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder. Select your startup drive and click the Repair Permissions button.

Launch a Nikon app and see if it works. If not, you are probably missing some support files. You could uninstall the Nikon software, and re-install it.

Thanks but that didn't work. I'll try uninstall and reinstall but later.

I did sign myself in as the original owner (rather than a User) and ViewNX did load but I couldn't access any of my User folders.
So this seems more like a computer problem than a Nikon one.

Suggest you sign up for a free flickr account and look at the Nikon Capture NX Users Group. It is one of the better Nikon software forums. Both ViewNX and Nikon Capture NX2 are going through a period of instability right now. But they should both work.

Tried correcting preferences and also un&re-install and nothing worked on my User account (created by Migration Assistant). However both applications work on my Owner account. So I moved (hopefully) all of my data/settings to the Owner account.
Thanks for the suggestions

This reminds me of my experience with VISTA. It too had millions of silent (and vocal) satisfied customers. Well VISTA did not work for me - it drove me to the Mac. This kind of haphazard/random "support" just does not cut it. If you don't believe me, ask Microsoft,
mine works. always has. always will.

Capture NX2 = millions of satisfied customers (the silent majority)

I did ask Microsoft. He told me to shut up and stop whining.
