28" softbox with sb inside. Bare sb camera left @1/16th

All triggered with RF602 remotes.

Really starting to get into a groove with off camera flash. Went and saw David Hobby this weekend in Portland. Great Stuff.

Not a fan of your posing (her hips look big in each of the shots), but really like the locations and I agree you are getting the hang of the lighting (just not diggin the shadows in #2).

Pretty subject. Thanks for sharing...

Nice! Great use of flare and light spots as compositional elements in #1. Nice off-center posing in #2. #3 is also nice--I might get down just a little lower so her shoulders are a little more framed by the wind farm, but that's just picky stuff.

Nice job!

Very nice shots! Did you gel the strobes or adjust the wb in post to warm up her skin tones?

Her entire body looks like it's shot at F8.0, and the background looks like F2.0.

They are nice but they look surreal.

Photography is all about use of light. Available, natural, flash, whatever is available and whatever suits the project you work on.
To me it looks like a great use of OCF.

'Happy shooting!'

They all look good to me. I wish I had known Hobby was in town. I DID get to see Joe McNally last friday here in Portland.

The background on the first one seems a little bit too underexposed for my taste. The separation between the subject and the background look artificial... maybe by not underexposing so much you could make them "blend in" more.

The third one is my favorite.

Agreed on the first shot, looks a bit like an advertisement and a smidge too artificial. I dig the other two shots though.

Question for the OP...did you go with a straight flash and WB for flash or did you throw a gel on there?

Pretty girl, very odd hair-do.

If the sun is coming from the upper-left corner of the frame -- which is above her right shoulder -- why is it that the left side of her face is lit much more brightly than her right side? I understand that you've done this with the AB800, but from a logical viewpoint, it simply makes no sense.

Dont really understand either comment, but as with most things in life, I guess its all relative to what you are familiar with.

Using the sun as an accent light and the b800 as the main was exactly the point. With out the light, the subject would be a silhouette given the shutter speed and aperture chosen for the exposure. (I wanted an underexposed sky for the BG)

Nice work Darin. Looks like you were shooting with a wide aperture with ND filters?, or did you manipulate the backgrounds post production?

Re: your model - Senior photos? If so, as seen in # 3, she's already out standing in her field! (sorry - couldn't resist :) )

Daring,

I'm glad you are getting accustomed to using off camera flash. The first picture seems overexposed, try using a lens shade to improve and meter for the highlights. The 2nd and 3rd picture seems the light was farther than 45 degrees to her right.

Thank you for sharing and happy Shooting!

I guess this is where creative differences come into play. Having the light 'always' at 45 makes for some boring images. You know what they say about 'rules'.....

I disagree about the exposure, again. Also, I wanted the lens flare, shot the image in order to induce flare. Actually took the shade off. Used it as an element in the photo.

Thanks for the input though.

Thanks. Love the pun!

Model was a friend and fellow photographer. No ND filters. Camera settings should be above each image. The first one was

Nikon D300, 80 mm, ISO 200, 10/2500 sec, f11, 0 EV, Jul 23, 2010 11:20:26

Backgrounds are almost as shot. A bit of levels and thats about it.
