Pentakon Praktica Luxmedia 12-03: which camera?

A friend of mine wants to buy herself a cheap digital camera and she stumbled across the Praktica Luxmedia 12-03 which is sold for as little as € 90.00 here in Germany. I understand that Pentakon - owner of the brandname Praktica - has ceased to maufacture cameras early this centura and the cameras sold under that name are re-badged cameras of other manufacturers. Does anyone know whether this is correct? Does anyone know what the Luxmedia 12-03 was originally? It does look a bit like a Canon IXUS but with 12Mp and a 34 ~ 102 Zoom it does not match anything I can find. On the other hand it uses a NP 40 battery which could point to Casio - but again I cannot find a camera with the specifications which uses this battery pack.

Can anyone help?

• am I correct assuming that Practicas are basically rebranded cameras of other manufacturer?
• does anyone know what hides behind the Practica 12-03
