First of all my thanks to everyone's tips which immensely helped me love the K-7.

All photos below are JPEGs straight out of the camera except that of the head priest in B&W.
I hope you enjoy these photos.
C & C most welcome....

The Golden temple at Amritsar

An old woman on her way to offer prayers at Maitreya's shrine. Maitreya is the future Buddha.

Wonderful shots. I love the Kashmir shots and the first night shot of Golden temple of Amritsar.

thanks for visiting Incredible India!

Good shots!. Only I can't get used to HDR pictures, they don't look natural to me.

I like the old woman stepping in the picture! The pictures remember me of my trip to Ladakh/Kashmir where I met so many nice people.
Some of them: (not always visible because of Internet troubles)

Those are nice pic. Well, I am basically from India. I was expecting some more pic's.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi G_T_G,

Great pictures and I love woman off to work although, like one of the
other respondents, the HDR picture looks a little flat, to me, and very
similar to some shots I have done when using the " shadow-highlight "
feature in CS2 and, for myself, adding more contrast (usually) made a
difference. I am not sure how might work with HRD ..which I should, also,
mention is something I have yet to try .... so take my advice/comments
with a big grain of salt :)

Cheers and looking forward to seeing more pics :)

It's amazing what one can do when one doesn't know what one is doing :)

Thank you Jack! I will definitely give it a try...

The HDR here was in-camera from the K-7. And I must admit, I didn't like all of them HDR photos.
Just added for a little variety...thanks for looking!

no problemo and will be curious to see what you think :)

Like you, I've tried the HDR function in my K200D and, unlike you, I have yet
to come across an ( HDR ) image I have been impressed with ..... mind you I have
never been a fan of HDR from the beginning :o so I am a bit biased ;)
Just added for a little variety..
It's always good to shake up the shooting routine every once in a while :D which
I did this past Saturday (July 31st) by going to Fireworks and ONLY

shooting the Fireworks :O :O :O ....... I usually just shoot the arrests, etc ... :)
.thanks for looking!
Twas a pleasure and looking forward to seeing some more pics :)

Cheers,

Jack

Hi Gandalf,

very nice shots which brought up the memory of my own trip to Kashmir and Ladakh in 1994 - just a year before some tourists got highjacked and killed in Kashmir and it became too dangerous to go there for European/US travelers.

In 1994 it was an unforgettable experience, though. We were a group of four and traveled from Delhi to Srinagar and followed the road to Leh from there. Kashmir is probably the most beautiful region I have ever been to. We stayed for three nights on a house boat in Srinagar, right on the Dal Lake - I have some old film shots of the morning market out on the water. I will never forget it.

To cross the first rows of the Himalaya on top of a truck is another unforgettable memory. The change of culture from islamic Kashmir to buddhistic Ladakh, the friendly welcome by the people in Lamayuru, the first buddhistic monastery in Ladakh, all those wonderful paintings in the temples, and so on, and so on... Sorry, just my personal memories.

What is your impression of the situation in Kashmir today? Would it be safe again for western people to go there, or is the "civil war" (more or less) that started in the mid 90ies still lasting? If so, it would be a tragedy: a paradise lost.

Please excuse my longish post - and many thanks for the beautiful memories.

Nice, unfortunately I didn't have enough time to visit many places in India when I was there recently. I like your Golden temple picture, it fits well.

I decided against Srinagar because of the violence/curfews/timeframe, but it does indeed look beautiful (I didn't get to see any perfectly still lakes like that :() even if that HDR shot is not that impressive (the scene is great), that is the first time I have seen an in-camera HDR from a K-7, and to be honest, I can't say that I like the output, the halo effect is very pronounced, nothing against your photography, that's the in-camera processing.

Funny, in four weeks, I only saw one other Pentax digital SLR (not sure of the model, but it had a Sigma lens on it) there, so many Canon's and Nikon's.

Thanks a lot everyone for your kind words.

Jan,

I believe every part of the world can be safe/unsafe depending on our interaction with it. Also, I wouldn't call it a civil war...more like a few vested interests who just can't understand the idea of peace. Unfortunately, the threat is still there.

Nevertheless it is one of the most beautiful places to stay, visit and experience.
I wouldn't think twice before doing so :)
