--Hi

Whats the Info on taking you iPad throughout airport security , do you have to take it out of the case so they can see it . Or can you just keep in your carry on camera bag ?
Thanks.

My ASUS netbook came with a fitted sleeve case that is airport X-ray friendly. No need to take it out of the sleeve; just take sleeve out of you backpack. Many trips through the airport without removing it from the sleeve.

There are many X-ray friendly cases available in all sizes. Google "X-ray friendly".

I wondered about this too before I went on vacation this past June. But in both airports (MSP and San Diego) they just ran it through the xray scanner and I never had to pull it out out of my bag. (Although, the TSA folks patted me down at the gate and when through my backpack full of photo gear, but they didn't bother with the iPad.)

Per the TSA blog, they shouldn't be treating you iPad like a laptop:

My iPad (in the Apple case) fits in my purse. This summer I have gone through security in Denver, Nashville and Oakland. I just put my purse in the tray and sent it through the machine. No questions, no problems.

Same here, been through several airports the past two months with the iPad in a smallish carryon and no questions asked. They searched my shoes instead!

Flew out from SFO through Heathrow to Copenhagen last week. No one asked to see the iPad in my carry on. We had two MBP's that we showed as usual...

airport, but was asked at the Expo in Shanghai in May. Don't really care either way - if they want to see it, they can see it. I usually had it in a leather case.

I bat about 50%

I work in the Nuclear field where I have to go through an Airport-like x- Ray exam everyday when entering work. I also travel for work quite a bit. In both cases I've found it subjective and pretty much up up to the guy on the x-Ray machine. Though it does go through more consistently if in a small bag, smaller than a briefcase.

I always take the (work) laptop out of the bag and keep the iPad in. Never been asked to take it out.

I've taken about 20 flights with my iPad (US, Europe, Canada) and have never taken it out of my briefcase.

At the security check stations at every US airport I've been through (about 12) the TSA sign clearly states that laptops be taken out of the carry-on bag. I guess they believe Steve Jobs saying that the iPad is not a laptop. ;)
