I've let all of you guide me here so far, and it's been a home run so far!

I decided to stick with Canon because of the examples shown to me here after selling a lot of my L Glass... So now that all my lenes are upgraded (most). And my Stobe Kit is ordered. I wanted your opinions again.

I'm keeping my 28-135mm IS on my mint Original 1D, in a backup/knockaround kit.

So the lens with the question mark you see here needs to be replaced. I've been going back and forth with getting the 24-105mm f/4 L IS.

I know that there is constant debate over getting this or the 24-70 2.8 L. I decided to go with the 2.8 because of the extra focus points availible on the 1D mk IV with the 2.8 lenses, and the faster autofocus, as well as the extra stop. Plus it is TACK Sharp, and I love it.

But the extra range AND IS... Still beckons. I'm trying to invision times where I would prefer the 24-105 L IS, They say from comparison tests that the 24-105 is better at the Wide Angle, and 24-70 is better Zoomed.

IS should be good for 3 stops I do find myself shooting stationary subjects, and needing to shoot @ less than 1/60th, and getting blur.

Perhaps members that have had, or currently have both lenses can offer some arguements for getting the 24-105 in addition to what I have or not.

It's either that OR a Prime...

Your Toughts...

Thanks,

Tony B.

OMG these posts are really ridiculous.

YOU and only YOU know the best what YOU need!

If you cannot decide, you need nothing.

And for a 1.3x body, imho the 24-70 is better than a 24/105IS. Both were not wide enough on 1.3x on which you can slip in your 16-35 anyway. My 24-105 is really poor at its short end due to distortion and heavy vignetts, much worst than my 24-70 so I dont know where you heard that the 25-105 knocks the 24-70 at the wide end. I wouldn't spend tons of money on L primes in that 'normal' range for a 1D2/3/4 due to its crop factor and lesser IQ than FF.

Well Listen...

It's not rediculous to me... I've never used the lens..

I thought those who have used both could offer some insight about them...

THIS IS A VERY HOT TOPIC IE - Picking between these two lenses. I'm not real expierienced, and this is a place to come to pick the brains of people who are... It is a place to offer in good spirit examples of our work, and guidence when we can.

I don't think it's a place to be RUDE...

So please if you think any of my other Threads are "Rediculous" Then don't Tread on them...

Nice case + equipment.

My first thought was, would a small can of beer fit in there?

I guess, I'm not being helpful at all.

Thanks...

At least you're funny! LOL!

I think a brewzky would go right in there yes!

Perhaps If I could implement some kind of refridgeration system? :-)

With all that foam in there, I think a beer would stay nicely chilled! lol

I'd say your range is pretty much covered. If you want a walk about lens, the 24-105L is a great option but since you already have the 24-70, I think that one lens wouldn't get much use.

I'd say that it's time to add a prime like a 14TSE, 35L, 50L or 85L if you do people shots or maybe a 14L, 17TSE or 24TSE if you do landscape/architecture most of the time.

Sorry I do not think I was rude.

I simply do not understand all that "tell me what should I buy" questions.

Especially when there are tons of information online, a lot of lens reviews, with sample pictures, even with measured resolution, chromatic aberation, geometrical distortion etc.

I wouldn't get a 24-105 to complement that kit,you already got a standar zoom.

Preferably something that you don't have already,like a 50mm f/1,2L or 85mm f/1,4L

Artificial intelligence can't beat natural stupidity......

or the 17ts/e. you have all the 2.8 zooms anybody could want

Bullet...

If you see my first post, I did I think mention that I have on order a complete Strobe kit from Paul C. Buff

3 Einstein monolight's and the Cyber Comander transmitter to meter a shot and adjust each head individually & remotely, as well as another transmitter for the camera, along with a Vagabond II Battery back/Inverter.

See the system here at Ron Goldbraith's site:

Can't wait to get this... It's backordered for 3 Months!

Plus I do have the Canon Wireless TTL transmitter for the flashes already in the kit.

Thanks,

Tony

+1. If he needs a lens, he should know it, not just get one for some non-existent usage. Otherwise, just get one of everything.

...did you hear the 24-105/4L is better at the wide end of the zoom range than the 24-70/2.8L? My experience is that at no point in the zoom or aperture range is the 24-105/4L better overall optically than the 24-70/2.8L, it is simply more convenient and less expensive - its primary attractions. And given the other lenses in your kit, I really can't imagine a single reason to spend a single additional minute contemplating the 24-105/4L - other than you, like so many, are more concerned with accumulating and talking about gear than actually taking photos. Thus, my suggestion is to stay off these fora and go use your gear. I'd rather see and discuss your photos than equipment.

You've already got 16 to 400 covered by zooms, so I would not worry about the 24-105. The 24-70 is a fine walk-around, and goes to f/2.8 when you need it.

You have nothing faster than f/2.8, and no primes. There is your hole. 24L or 35L to the rescue. I would also suggest the 85/1.8 or the 135L, but the 70-200/2.8LIS II mostly takes care of that duty.
