Canon L = Lousy?

..that dared to stick your head out.

You were right at pic 3. It is my 2nd 24-105.

Pic 1 is the 1 st 24-105 (I didnt like it) and pic 2 is EF 17-85. Hard to believe isnt it?

Since then I have tested 24-105 and 17-85 side by side on different objects. The 25-105 wins all the times. The only difference is 24mm where distortion is more pronounced and fringing as bad as the 17-85.

I am very happy with my 24-105 now but still annoyed by the variation of the lens sold by Canon. L is not Lousy (I had a questionmark on it) but it could certainly be a Lottery.

The reason for this is that this is an FF lens, that you use on a crop camera. On an FF body, 24 mm is a bit extreme, and if you want the best performance that wide, you would use a different lens. On a crop body, 24 mm is a very useful FL, and your zoom should shine there.

The best Canon standard range zoom for crop bodies is the 17-55.
