3 Years & A "1"; What A Difference!

Out of curiosity, I clicked on "Last" in the page menu. This took me back to July 1, 1999. I didn't see any names I recognize, though some may have since changed theirs to protect the innocent, but it was interesting.

Instead of C-2100's, the talk centered on the "new" C-2000 and just-released C-2500. Scanning forward a few pages, the threads did have some common themes with today's issues and the helpful "Oly Member" attitude was evident even then. One quick impression is that cameras come and go, but people and photography are pretty constant.

Were any of the current members participating in the forum back then?

I commend Phil Askey for enduring the growing pains of his forums and keeping this great resource going for the past 3 years.

A lot of us current posters have been around a year or so. Nice to see so many new users really contributing!! Also fun to see the PITAs come, raise hell, and leave just as fast. Best to ignore them... works like a charm.

As far as I know, misha is one of the old-timers of the forum and still going strong!

Right about the PITA's; they eventually fade away.

Anyone else been here since the beginning?

If things haven't changed that much, a FAQ might reduce a lot of the repetitive questions like, "how to I attach a filter to the C-7x0?" and "My alkaline batteries die after a few shots...is something wrong with my camera?"
 
Good point. Time to bump the everything you need to know about the Uzi thread.

A while back I had some correspondence with Phil and asked if it were possible with FAQs in each forum. They would be made by the members and possibly have a few moderators.
Phil never got back to me on that question but maybe it's time to ask him again.

BTW, the Uzi FAQ I put together almost a year ago may be outdated in some areas but I guess the main issues like lenses and filters still apply.

Misha's definitely an old timer but I think there are active people that go even further back. I joined around August last year and a lot of the people from back then are still here. Sandman, newby, Clicker, and of course Juli come to mind. Weren't you there too, Inigo?

Not quite that far back. I picked up my Uzi a year ago today, and first posted here a couple weeks later, just in time I think for "Duck mania 2001". :-)
 
Misha was one of the posters in that first thread. Those were the days. Everything was nice and peaceful until around Aug 2001. It has never been the same. Sigh! But it will continue to be a great forum....only different!

Ooops, I'm afraid I'm partly responsible for that. Actually it was because Jens (Sweden) posted some great duck shots taken with both an E-10 and E-100. I'd just gotten my E-100 and wanted to see if I could get the same vibrant colours so off to the pond I went day after day.

Those were fun days. Certainly a lot easier to keep up with things in the forum since it was a smaller crowd (not to belittle the forum as it is today).

BTW, I've written to Phil again about an FAQ section after you brought it up. We'll just have to wait and see what he has to say and if I'm allowed to post his answer here.

the zoom frenzy? That was when all teleconverters were tried, then stacking two lenses and then three.

I think dvt43 bought all the lenses back then and tried every single combination, lol. Jason stoller hooked up a Tcon300 to his E-100 and added the B-300 at the end. 1938mm, that's still gotta be the record.

Yes, I remember... I still have a bookmark to dvt43's seminal work on teleconverters and "stacked" combinations:
